I was thinking about Religion the other day, and thought, 'Which story seems most realistic?'. In my religion, Catholocism, we believe that Christ was our Saviour and was born under a Virgin. This seems unlikely, but which seems more likely?

Atheism and Science are NOT options. THEY are bullshit. There is definately A God or Gods out there who created the Universe. How was the Universe made? How were humans made? Why are there still primates around? Where did the first particle come from?

Most likely to be true: Buddhism. The Buddha's life has become surrounded by myths and fairy-tales, but the things the Buddha actually taught have the strongest chance of being true.

Most likely to be bull: the Big Three (Judaism, Christianity, Islam).

PS: I left out scientology, the moonies etc because they are so obviously full of sh1t they don't deserve mentioning.

Well, clearly Mormonism, Islam, Baha'i and most, if not all, religions founded in the last 1000 or so years are made up. Christianity is likely made up on several different levels i.e. the modern church (both protestant and catholic) are probably nothing like the early church and their beliefs have definitely changed. Judaism would stand a chance except for the glaring errors in the first five books.

I'd say Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism have a more likely chance of being somewhat real.

Well, heathenry as a historical ethnocultural folkway very clearly *happened,* although modern reconstructionist heathens have the obvious advantage over certain OTHER religions of recognizing our *cough* creation myths as just that, MYTHS---meant to teach, not to report. :-)

Highest noise-to-signal ratio? Well, while Mormonism had some pretty dubious beginnings, and believes some odd things, Mormons themselves are generally good, solid, practical, dedicated folks, even if they do knock on my door sometimes. Scientologists, on the other hand, not only believe odd things . . . they produce odd PEOPLE. I mean, c'mon . . . tell me Tom Cruise isn't a total weeeewoooo whack job these days!

Catholicism is a denomination.....Christianity is a religion....looking at the basis on many religion...the native Americans have stories and histories in their religious beliefs that go way back before European people were here that closely parallel Christian beliefs....but the same can be said concerning Islam...so basic belief systems appear to be close...just distorted to a degree..

I'm a Lutheran. I believe going by the exact words in the bible is better than following 'tradiotion' and passed on mumble jumble.

I mean, if it was a 'tradition' in your family since the dawn of time to eat other people, would you? Even against common societies laws?

I mean, that's just what I believe, even though I was raised in Catholicism. I think Lutheranism is the better choice to get you where you'd like to go, though.

I think all religions are bull, but I am shocked that scientology is so popular. Its founder is on record saying that he intended to create a religion just to make money and people still take it seriously.

Wicca doesn't even make an attempt to hide the fact that it began as a lot of hot air.

It STILL makes more sense than organized religion.

Pastafarianism is as likely as any religion.

The silliest is probably $cientology. C'mon, alien ghosts? Couldn't L.Ron at least have gotten his buddy Robert Heinlein to write something for him, so it would be marginally better than what he came up with?
