I had my tonsils out about a week and a half ago, (and I'm not so young anymore, so the older you are when you have them out - the harder it is to heal), and the pain medicene I'm on makes me irritable and paranoid, but I'd rather be on the "egde" than in pain. But, I do notice that people get frustrated with me because I've been SO irritable. Do you think I should use the medicene as an excuse for the way I'm acting or just apologize and be done with it?

I had my tonsils out at age 25 and it was no picnic either. The medicine made be ill and edgy too. I would just apologize in advance and people will just have to deal with it because it is very painful - not to mention aggravating because everything you take has to be in a liquid form for the first week or so and food - well that is entirely another issue. I had to learn to eat grits, which I hate, but when you are tired of soup and stuff, you'll eat what is less painful. I totally understand what you are going through.

Hang in there !

Definitely just apologize and be done with it! We all need to apologize more - it's really such a simple thing why do we all hold back on it? It's probably more the pain than the pain meds that are making you irritable. Have you tried changing your pain meds?

If it's been a week and a half you can probably stop taking the pain medicine you've been taking and take an OTC pain medicine like Tylenol or Ibuprofen. Maybe you won't be irritable then.

You can explain and apologize but keeping your irritability under control at age 42 should be well within your social skills set.

It could be a reaction to the medication. Try asking for a different one.
I would def. apologize and be done with it.

Good Luck!
