I am worried about what they will do to him. I have been told as he was doing 35mph (he didn't realise and just saw the cars behind him stopped) it was too serious for the fixed penalty and he can be fined up to £1000 and receive a maximum of 6 points. I am just wondering if anyone else has gone through a red light then gone to court so I know what their outcome was? I would just like an idea of the amount he will be fined and whether there might be a driving ban or not?

It seems odd to take something like this to court with all the on the spot fines out there. In my very early driving days i went through a red light driving home from a 20 hour shift at work. Totally ignored it. I was lucky not to be seen, and didnt drive after the longer shifts after that for a while. Taught me an early lesson. Mick

being a professional driver and driving over a thousand miles a week I want people like that off the road. Okay I know I won't get best answer for this but I feel it needs to be said. Your boyfriend HAS to learn that the roads are very dangerous and it really isn't ok to be that unaware that you could cause that offence. The law is there for a reason. Ask your bloke how he felt at the time. He'll be indignant and angry (maybe). He won't think he was wrong though. Do you drive? Do you understand yourself that you're moving a third of a ton of metal without anyone telling you ho to do it? What if he ran over a 4 year old? This is not ok and I see every day the results of that kind of thinking. I am honest with you and I'm also available to talk about this if you need to. I mean your partner, not you. Why is he not on this site. Time to ask yourself a few questions

This is a relatively minor offence of speeding in a 30 mph zone and he will in all probability be given 3 penalty points on his licence and a moderate fine, probably hovering somewhere around 50 pounds (although the court will look at his means, so it's impossible to say exactly.) I have never known anyone be banned for an offence as much on the lower end of the scale as this and presumably it is his first offence, so he doesn't have to worry about totting. He will also probably be ordered to pay costs and this new surcharge of 15 pounds which has been imposed by the Government.

You have been looking at the maximum penalties. They will not apply here. He'll still be able to drive you about, so stop worrying.

I think some of us realise that if you're on a UK & Ireland site you're not in America! The offence is known as TS10 "Failing to comply with traffic light signals" & normally attracts 3 penalty points plus a fine around £60 - £100. I take it he wasn't done for speeding at the same time.

I was in an area that I was not familiar with and glancing at my directions. I told the cop all of this and he didnt't care. NOt only did he he give me a ticket for the red light, he also gave me a ticket for a broken tail light and tinted windows. Some of the police take advantage of the power that they are given. I had to pay a fine to avoid points. The judge threw out the tinted window ticket.

Ive never done this but I work for an insurance company so I have had many customers who have. I think he will prob get 3 pts for the traffic lights and 3 pts for speeding.
As this was (hopefully) his first offence I doubt he will get the maximum fine, prob only £100 ish

it's still the beginning of their financial year so there won't be such a tight squeeze to make up budgetary incomes as if he'd been caught in Jan, Feb, March.

If it's first offence then prob just points- make sure he is polite to the magistrate!
I used to work with a magistrate and she banned him from driving. He might have got away with some leniancy if he hadn't suggested that as the magistrate was female she wouldn't understand what driving is like.

Maybe he can keep Paris's cell toilet seat warm for her while she pops out for a next offence.
Seriously nobody runs a red light by accident. So accept the punishment and move on. If he didn't realise then he was not paying attention so that is another offence.

You are worried what they will do to him?!! You want to think yourselves both lucky that he is just going to court for jumping a red light. You could have had to go and visit him in the morgue. How stupid can you get!

Deny the charge if there are valid grounds. If not, cite mitigating circumstances. If still not applicable, admit the case and hope that this will decrease the penalty.
