i was wondering if anyone knows of a rough guide line of when the insurance pays out. it was parked outside my house, and three cars (including mine) were hit before it crashed. everyone thinks it is going to be a write off, but im stuck with no car, so any ideas how long it may be? (im fully comp.) thanks x

Hey Marie, this totally depends on the insurance company you are with. Some companies offer a courtesy car, so this could be on offer for you. It's bad news for you that someone was irresponsible enough to cause this damage. Public transport is quite appalling in most areas of the UK so this could be an option for you for an interim? Time wise this could take anything from 3 weeks to 6-8 weeks, good luck with this.

These days it should only be a very few days before the garage makes a report to the insurance company and you will know whether the car is repairable - and get or not get a courtesy car.
Although too late in this case, you can now buy insurance policies that will give you a fixed courtesy car after an incident if your car is a total loss or stolen - whynot have a word with your insurance broker?

There`s no such thing as a "Joy Rider", they are nothing more than THIEVES and as such should be punished accordingly. Rob a bank of £10,000 pound and you`ll get a prison term, take a car of the same value and you would be unlucky to get more than a fine or "community service"

This sort of case often depends on whether the idiots were identified or caught and convicted. If they were you have a claim against them, or more likely against the Motor Insurers Bureau. Unfortunately this all takes time, and if you pay for a rental yourself you don't have a certain success of recovery

It depends on the insurance company and the garage its been sent too.
If I were you I would call everyday for an update.
Do you have a courtesy car on your policy?, if so you will get it for 14 days after the accident.

Check your policy and see if you have rental covarage?
It usually speeds things up when you tell them you are going to rent a car and they have to pay!
If the car is not payed for you don't have to accept the payoff either.
But if you cash the check you will be accepting payment as full ! Don't do it unless you are satisfied with the payment
