Currently I do upper body weight training and 20 minutes eliptical 3 days a week then leg strength training and 1 hour on the eliptical on the alternating 3 days and then 1 day of rest a week. I was wondering if it would be better to drop the 20 minutes of cardio on my upper body days to give my legs more rest. Also I've heard that too much of a running type exercise may be detrimental to building muscle. (as a side note, I'm trying to gain muscle weight as well)

Most doctors would like for people to get 30-60 minutes of exercise a day that increases their heartrates for health reasons. The reality is, however, that almost nobody does it. You could do more, though, depending on your weight and health goals.

Cardio is not necessarily detrimental to muscle building. In fact, cardio can be a positive factor. One of the only drawbacks to intense cardio is the risk of injuries like shin splints, which are often caused by high impact force to the bones. Wear good shoes, and never overdo it.

Hope this helps!

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

do cardio every day and alternate weight training. running is bad for your joints, but walking is excellent exercise. working out regularly with weights will build muscle more than anything else. do your upper body every other day and lower body on the days you don't to upper body. that will give your muscles time to heal and rest.

you should typically do 3-6 days of cardio training. If you go for a long period of time, you should skip the next day. If you go for a shorter time, you can go almost everyday.
