I was a Vietnam Vet. When we came home college kids were yelling
"Hey, hey, what do you say
How many babies did you kill today!!"

Our military is doing their best and they deserve everyone's respect no matter what someone's opinion on the Iraq war happens to be.

Yes I have. During the first Gulf War, when I was in the National Guard I stopped to get gas and a breakfast while in uniform on my way to drill. A WWII vet came up to the counter and insisted on paying for my gas and food. I can't begin to describe how good that felt. So I make a point of telling new vets how I feel about their service.

Yeppers. Was doing some training in Maine a few years back, and a flight came through with a bunch of OIF troops on leave. Sat and chatted with them, bought them all sodas.

Dave B -- I feel for ya. I was in ROTC at the end of 'Nam -- never got over there for the fight. On campus, I had peace freaks throwing stones, spitting, and splashing my drill uniform with red paint -- and these were kids that I went to class with every day and had no trouble except for Tuesday drill day. Poor, pathetic, ignorant twits. Now, thirty-plus years later, we're still friends, and many have apologized profusely for their ignorance.

I sure do. Every time I see a member in uniform, and even the guys that I know when they are not in uniform, I still thank them. I have been on several airline flights that have had people give standing ovations to th folks in uniform.

Several times. I was going down the express way yesterday and came up on a VW with Delaware tags (I'm in Va) with the Eagle/Globe/Anchor on the plate. I got along side of him and blew my horn. When he turned, I sat straight in my saddle (motorcycle) and gave him a salute. He smiled and mouthed, THANK YOU, and saluted me back. I was in the Cincinnati airport Sunday on the way back home and saw a young man and his lady. His hair cut indicated he was military. I walked up to him and said, MARINES? He said, YES. I stood straight and saluted him and said, "Thank you for serving, Marine!" I was pumping gas a few weeks ago and a grizzled man stepped out of his pick up wearing a red ball cap with the EGA on it and a Gunny Sgt pin. I turned to him, stood at attention and saluted, saying, GUNNY, THANK YOU! He asked for what. I told him for his time in the greatest fighting force in the world. He stuck out his hand and shook mine and said, 'Thank YOU!"
Why do I salute these fine men (and women?). After doing over 20 years in the Navy, I feel I have earned the right to salute present and past military personnel. I will continue to do so as long as I can raise my right hand to my brow.

If I see a Marine I always say "Semper Fi"

If I see another service I smile and nod respectfully.

Actually I love when Marines ask if I have been in the service, I have to say no and then I get to tell them about my Uncle the Marine sniper. hehe
