I'm just curious, why do people try bad things in the world, but, fail to try good things such as God (and if people are just going to say God doesn't exist and he's a joke please don't even bother leaving answer)

only serious answers please, thanks

People have said that they don't try God because he isn't real. Fair enough their is no solid evidence God exists thats where faith comes in, but, theirs no solid evidence he isn't real either. I'm not saying give up everything, I'm just saying why don't people come to church, be prayed for, at least once

People have said all these things about religion being hard and people not wanting the wait. I'm not saying why don't people give everything up straight away and follow God straight away, I mean why don't people TRY God

Disillusion:
"Sex is better for you.

Drugs and God are about the same. You get a silly high and think you're better than others because you're on one or the other, then you go around spouting off nonsense to anyone nearby. Ultimately you end up brain damaged and hurting the ones you love."

Absolutely the most ridiculous answer to this question. Is it not possible here for atheists to not be rude in their answers? He asked for serious answers only but what else can you expect? Us Christians are crazy right? Sex and drugs make you look cool in front of your friends, and I bet the main reason these atheists are such hard asses is because they'd lose half of their "friends" if they showed faith in Jesus. I was an atheist a few months ago, not quite as rude as some of you, but still, an atheist. I tried sex, drugs, not God. I thought I was happy. I wouldn't trade the brothers and sisters I've met or my salvation for all the sex and drugs in the world.

Because sex and drugs are guaranteed to make you feel something. They are both physical activities which give you euphoric feelings (I hope I am not promoting drug use here I'm just giving the reasons why people take them, there are of course huge risks involved) whereas believing in God can sometimes take too much hard work and often religion does not give the same amazing feelings as sex and drugs offer. Drugs and sex are not Bad things, who are you to say that they are bad?? Sex is one of the best things that life has to offer, it is an amazing thing that brings 2 people as close as they can get, and it produces the most important thing of all, life!! Drugs on the other hand can be dangerous but if taken sensibly people can lead happy lives on drugs, usually the reason it ruins lives is because the people taking the drug cannot afford their habit!
To round it off religion, drugs and sex are not bad things but it is easier to see the benefits of the latter 2 because they give definitive results, religion has very little to do with physical feelings more to do with believing and that can be harder to do for some people including me!!
Basically what I'm trying to say is that sex and drugs are physical things and there is no doubt about there existence or there consequences, God and religion on the other hand are a little more cloudy and with no certainty that either exist!!

Maybe people want something fun and easy to indulge in (or escape to). Sex (as in: immoral sex) and drugs are an easy "fix", and with drugs, they can escape their unhappiness. It's all about having fun and not caring about consequences. I mean, look at some of the responses you've gotten:

• "Sex and drugs are real. God is imaginary."
• "Sex and drugs are real and fun. God isn't real and is rather stuffy. Seems like a pretty clear choice to me."
• "Physical lust is easier to satisfy then meaningful fulfillment."
• "Beer tastes better..."
• "Sex and drugs offer an immediate gratification, whereas God is waiting until you die."
• "Tried god, he never showed up. The sex and drugs were nice."
• "Because sex and drugs are guaranteed to make you feel something. Drugs and sex are not bad things, who are you to say that they are bad??"

Titus 2:11-12 -- 11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12 It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age."

Yes, God does encourage sex: 1 Corinthians 7:2 – Because there is so much sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman should have her own husband.

It takes a much stronger person to be faithful and trust in God, who we can't physically see. (Hebrews 11:1 -- Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.) Perhaps by denying God's existence, they can deny the sin, and it helps relieve the guilt of their actions from their conscience.

(to StraightAnswer: All your biblical scriptures are from the Old Testament. Jesus came to earth and died for us to replace the old law. So the New Testament supersedes the Old Testament. It's actually sad and pathetic how you attempt to justify drug use.)

I don't quite understand the question.

1. We KNOW sex and drugs exist. God, as much as some of us believe, is really unproven.

2. Sex is bad? I thought the Bible said to be fruitful and multiply. Didn't that mean sex?

3. Which God? I believe in God but not Jesus. Does that mean that I haven't "tried" God? Or not?

4. Sex and drugs offer an immediate gratification, whereas God is waiting until you die.

5. Many people have "tried" a religion and found it to not be fulfilling and either found another religion or found that no religion suits them best.

6. With so many wars being waged over religion, can you be certain that God is in fact a "good" thing anyway?

Being filled with the Holy Spirit is better than any drug, you can ask the lead singers of bands such as Skillet and Seventh Day Slumber for proof.
The answer is probably because you require faith to follow God and to receive His Holy Spirit, whereas drugs are generally a near instant fix. Also you can keep the highs of drugs going whenever you fell however you want God to do this, it often requres prayer and patience because although God wants to fill us with Himself, however not all time, as it would become unfilling to have an unvarying experience every time. This is because He created us and respects our unique personalities, unlike drugs.

God is awesome, but because in this world there are people of little faith who struggle to even believe in themselves, how can they surely be asked or expected to believe in the Almighty? So they turn to alternatives, which they know deep down are not doing them any favours.
Hope this helps (anyone)

God Bless, Christ be with you

p.s. however, your point regarding sex- sex is good, God created sex, however not with multiple partners, as this could cause emotional and physical damage. Additionally, if with only one person, then that is fantastic as sex can be the process of bringing two people together as one, and I imagine that experience only once is awesome! However, the society we live in promotes sex in a life that requires it 'cool' to have sex with lots of different people.

The problem with your question is it presumes an innate goodness to God.

You further presume that sex and drugs are necessarily "bad".

Although admittedly there are problems with drugs, this is largely owing to the foolishness of essentially capitalistic administrative mechanisms which have become so pervasive. The vast majority of recreational drugs do not result in any sort of social malaise and the vast majority of users do not jeopardise the social order as such. Heroin is an exception in so far as its addictiveness. Crimes nevertheless (burglary and offences against the person) as well as the poverty and disenfranchisement of addicts, due to heroin and other opiates are greatly aggravated by the its inflated market value created by illegalisation. If governments controlled and regulated the availability of narcotics, the vast majority of corollary problems would be automatically diluted.
People who use drugs moderately and realistically are mentally healthy, intelligent and aware of themselves and the pros and cons of their actions. Drug addiction on the other hand is owing to poverty. Heroin, glue, jenkem usage in the third world being examples. Drug addiction and abuse in the industrialised world is clear evidence of how patriarchal industrial capitalism is in fact the malaise which drugs provide a seeming respite from.

Sex is vilified and commodified simply create a means to emotionally blackmail the public and harness and misdirect our collective libidinal energy towards the betterment of industry, the market and the beneficiary classes. This attitude to sex by which it is imagined to be wrong is promoted so as to institute the nuclear family which seems to be the most adequate social unit to industrial economies. I think an extended sexual freedom is conducive to a more post-industrial economy and vice versa, which would explain why right wing politics necessitates in favour of the family. Vilification of sex is also a very successful means to control women and institute patriarchy. Sex is good, pleasurable and natural. It seems inconceivable to me that there is any innate wrong specifically ensues from sex and sexuality, and I further contend that only the most diseased mind could possibly contrive such an argument.

God and religion are merely the vehicles to institute idiocy in the public. Religion is an anachronism from an era when feudal lords, slavers and industrialists owned the peasantry in the flesh and the church or its equivalent owned them in the soul. This resurgence in religious sentiment (particularly in North America and the Middle East ) in recent times is indeed extremely worrying and evidence of massive social failure and should ideally be stamped out in the better interests of humanity.

Many different reasons. First, we are in fleshly bodies, and that's a draw. By nature, man is a sinner. Then, there's escapism...people know how to escape from whatever pain of reality they're experiencing, if even for a couple of hours.
Sex and drugs are immediate...with God, there is a sowing and reaping, which is NOT always immediate.
What I mean is this- you sow something(to the spirit, in this case) and like the illustration, you don't get to reap anything right away! Whatever you sow has to have a chance to grow. The harvest of spiritual fruit is well worth waiting for.

Why have you not tried paganism, Budism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Pastfarinism,

Sex and Drugs are real I can measure them and experience them. God is nothing but a creation of man. There are to many "Gods" in the world and I don't have the time energy or care to explore all of the "faith" of the world

Because sex and drugs are real.

But as a matter of fact, there are very few people in the United States anyway who didn't "try God". The majority of atheists here are former Christians who simply realized that there isn't any god.

The way you asked the question simply gets it wrong: sex, at least, is a better thing than "god". When you put sex in the "bad things" category and God in the "good things" category, you're simply mistaken.

Drugs are a different matter, of course, but even there, overall drugs are roughly as good as "god". They're really good for some people sometimes, and really bad for some people sometimes - just like "god".

You're simply not thinking correctly about this stuff. That's why you're so confused.

Those claiming that there's no instant gratification with "god", or that trying god requires one to give up sin - you're simply wrong. Becoming religious IS a form of instant gratification, taking the easy route rather than disciplining one's self in order to have genuine achievements. And it's obviously false that "finding god" requires one to give up worldly pleasures. In fact becoming religious serves as an excuse for all sorts of evils.
==================
When you ask why people don't come to church at least once, you illustrate the fact that "god" and drugs are similar. Needless to say, essentially everyone comes to church at least once, and most of us who don't believe in god spent quite a bit of time in church. You're living in a world of delusions, insisting that your bizarre version of reality is true - just as you might were you doing certain drugs.
