Following are the important things for any marriage to make it happening
1. Trust/faith for each other.
2. Respect for each other and no taken for-granted attitude.
3. Optimism towards future.
4. Communication with each other even when u disagree or had a quarrel with each other.
5. Dependence yet independence both mentally, as well as financially.
6. And most important, Love and lots of love for each other in any circumstances.

The reason I say this is because communication is the key to a happy loving marriage. People need to realize that without communication how can they respond to their partners needs, conerns, desires, and wants. You have to have communication in order to have all the other aspects that are required to keep a marriage going. You trust, love, and respect through communication. In one way or another its through communication. If you lose that communication you tend to lose trust. When you lsoe trust you start to lose respect. And sadly with that goes love and ends with divorce. You need to have communication in all spects of your marraige.

Civilized behavior and not being an embarrassment to your spouse. Treat them kindly, no hitting, yelling and berating. On a day to day basis, be decent and considerate. No throwing things, saying you will do something for them, and then flaking out on it.
