Dog food is a controversial subject that causes a lot of conflict of opinions. There is no right or wrong, and really the "best" food is what works for your dog. One dog may thrive on a certain food while another dogs terrible on it. Does this make the food good or bad? of course, the food is great for the dog who thrives on it and bad for the dog who does terrible on it.

My personal opinion is that dogs are carnivores and a low quality dry dog food that contains a minimal amount of meat and is full of grains, fillers and additives is NOT a suitable diet for a canine. A suitable diet in the ideal world would be whole raw foods, but for the average dog and owner a high quality dry food will have to do.

While this is not always strictly true, generally you get what you pay for with dog foods.

Anything by these brands; Eagle Pack, Canidae, Timberwolf Organics, California Natural, Innova, Solid Gold and Chicken Soup For the Pet Lovers Soul are high quality foods. Even some of the brands you can get in places such as PetSmart (Natural Balance, Nutro, etc.) are ok.

If you are in the UK, James Wellbeloved is probably the best easily available dog food on the market.

Avoid junk like Pedigree, Science Diet, etc.

Good luck!

First answer notwithstanding - obviously this clod doesn't know the sweet nature of the breed - or sadistically likes to perpetuate myths against this fine dog. Given the bad press our beloved bull dogs get - jokes are in really poor taste - and should be treated as extremely bad manners. Rude pest.

It's always best to discuss specific needs with your vet. S/he will be delighted to advise you on what's best for your Lovey.

In the meantime, feed your baby a good, well-balanced dry kibble, augmented occasionally with a good wet combination of vegetables and meat (canned dog food). There are many good brands out there. They all come with printed estimates of proper food amounts. BUT it's not a hard and fast rule - and some brands will agree with him better than others. Start with the small bags of kibble first - then when you find a brand that suits him well, you can buy the big bags.

Go very sparingly on any kind of table scraps - they can make his tummy rumble - with serious gas and diarrhea.

Limit treats to special occasions.

That said, my sweet Baby Blue (also a Staffie) has made begging for tidbits a true art.

1) Is there a better food which I could feed my new puppy ? Royal Canine is over proced crap, feed it Orijen, Taste of the Wild, Wellness...etc 2) Is there a better, healthier exercise regime ? My APBT is lean and healthy, I take her in hikes and let her run at the park, you dont need bulk up your dog, their bodies are already muscular 3) At what age could I begin to stud my dog ? How much should the stud fee be ? How much could I sell the offspring for ? A dog can only be health tested at the ripe age of 2 yrs old, to find out if your dog is healthy enough to breed, if not your dog has to be neutered 4) Where can I get a weight pulling harness from ? (I want to help him bulk up when he is fully grown) 5) What is a good weight pulling weight to start with ? 6) Who has a good ***** to breed with once more mature

No grocery store brands they are total garbage including Iams and Eukanuba. Go to this link. They tell you the ingredients and why they would or would not recommend the foods. I feed my dog Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul, they also have a puppy version. Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul.

The foods are graded 1-6. Six being the best and One being the worst.
