they say they are here to serve "him" they must obey "him" they must love "him" more than anything in this world, including their own family. they must spread "his" word, they must thank "him" for everything good that happens, yet bad things are their own doing, they must live in fear of "his" wrath.....the list goes on and on.

they will say that there is a "reward" for all of this, but people who kept black slaves would "reward" the slaves with food, and at least the slaves new their master was real, whereas monotheistic religion followers have to just hope that their master is real. (oh, sorry, they "know" "he's" real)

i just don't understand why someone would want to be a slave, although i do understand the mechanics of brainwashing, and this seems to fit into that.

can someone prove to me that i'm wrong?

lori - that's sad, because my mind isn't made up, i am here to learn. i am pagan, and one thing pagans have in common is their love of knowledge, often in the religion field. i don't think your way is wrong, just different, and i want to try to understand why you follow it BB

you have a very interesting view point.

I can not prove that you are wrong. By definition you may even be technically right.

In my case, I was in a bad place and it was through my faith that I got out of that place.

I don't really think it is brainwashing, cause at times I have been sooooo mad at god that I stopped talking to him. I stopped going to church and even stopped praying for a whole year. But I just felt like something was missing in my life, like I was not complete. So I went back and found what I needed.

For me, my faith works. and that is proof enough for me :-)

dear i believe in one God. I am a christian and i do not consider myself a slave. I am willing serving him. Slaves dont have a choice on who their master is. I do. Also your comment about when bad things happen its our fault and not give thanks. That is not true. In the bible it says Always giving thanks to God the father for ALL things. That means good and bad. not just good. no one brainwashed me no made me do it and definately no one coerced me to do it. this was my will and my choice. I have had a lot of bad things happen to me in my life and since i found God in the Christian religion it has set me free. I am a much happier person today than i was then. God is perfect and we are not. We are to perfect but thats where Jesus comes in. There is no way on Gods green earth that humans can be perfect. Thats why Jesus had to die to set us free. Through his blood and his ultimate sacrafice we can go to heaven. But there are other things that play in it as well. There a few discrepancies amongst Christian what you actually have to do be saved and get to heaven. But the point still remains we must remain subservant. Were more like servants than slaves. but we are willing servants not forced. this is a life style we choose.

As slaves of God, we must not become slaves of men. (1 Corinthians 7:23) True, none of us like to be unpopular, but we must bear in mind that Christians have standards that are different from those in the world. Paul asked: “Am I seeking to please men?” His conclusion was: “If I were yet pleasing men, I would not be Christ’s slave.” (Galatians 1:10) We simply cannot give in to peer pressure and become men pleasers.

Remembering that we are slaves of God can also help to keep us humble. On one occasion, the apostle John felt so impressed by a magnificent vision of heavenly Jerusalem that he fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who had served as God’s spokesman. “Be careful!” the angel told him. “Do not do that! All I am is a fellow slave of you and of your brothers who are prophets and of those who are observing the words of this scroll. Worship God.” (Revelation 22:8, 9) What a fine example the angel set for all of God’s slaves! Certain Christians may be in positions of special responsibility in the congregation. Nevertheless, Jesus said: “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your minister, and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave.” (Matthew 20:26, 27) As Jesus’ followers, all of us are slaves

ok how are you comparing any type of god to a slave master. most monotheistic leaders are sympols of love and peace used to placate the masses and help through the realities of life. any symbol polytheistic monotheistic could be considered ridiuclous and yes people use religion as excuses for all and control. you are right it is a form of brainwashing or cultural acclimation. but it is a choice also.unless youre a wimp and cant go against peer pressure.

Well it is a mixture really. Life is a mixture ....and where one slavery picks up and another one ends is kind of undefined. The recipe for all that is is very complex but can be broken down into one component of IS. You can take it from there, once you are awakenned.

All religions or sets of beliefs have their illusions of slaves and their keepers.

The proof is in your own heart. You were made in the image of God and there is an innate desire to fellowship with Him. But your heart is hard and can't see the truth.

Now let me put it to you straight ...

I bow down and worship my God. I sing praises to Him. I tell folks like you all about Him. I love sharing a good thing.

And soon, very soon, He will call me to Him along with all the other real believers. Then the judgement will begin and you will understand why we fear His wrath. If your own heart can't prove the existence of God, then His wrath certainly will.

We're not slaves, we choose to follow God. We choose what we do on a daily basis. Sometimes it's things that are good, sometimes it's things that are bad. Some actually choose to walk away from him. If we were brainwashed would that occur?

Those are reasons I was never drawn to christianity. Any deity asking those things is not around for spiritual reasons. It would be nothing spiritual about it.

I'll never believe in a God like that.

yeah, I can Riegan, I can prove you are wrong, but you would have to have faith (different from religion) to understand the proof. So, I would be wasting my time. Besides, nobody owns you a proof for anything... Can you tell me why atheists spend so much time deriding other's beliefs ? Why do you worry about people of faith and waste your time talking to them, would it not be more rewarding to talk to other atheists ?
Inscribed on an atheist flag: "there is no god, and I am his prophet!"
