Everyone will get the Air Force Training Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal, the former for graduating basic and the latter for being a service member during a time of declared war. The only two others I'm aware of someone being eligible for would be the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon and the USAF Basic Military Training Honor Graduate Ribbon. All those ribbons may look pretty on your uniform but mean very little; the USAF awards the most ribbons of any service. The only medals that count towards WAPS (Weighted Airman Promotion System) begin with the Achievement Medal.

BobW pulled a new one out of the hat on me there. That might be the fifth possible ribbon. The four I listed were the only four available when i did basic in '89.

BMT Honor Grad and Marksman are the only real ribbons to earn.

Honor Grad is a bear because not only do you have to do everything well the MTI has to select you. Tough act to set out to get and I advise just doing the best that you can and not giving it a thought, as that will only trip you up.

Help your squad mates pass would be the best course of action. Determined effort to get the others in the flight through the tests will help more than anything else.

Good Luck and work hard

Brian C is correct about the four ribbons with the possible exception of the Global War on Terrorism service medal. There is one for being here and another for being overseas. I'm not sure if the GWoT service medal is given in BMT, though.

Well eating only fruits and vegetables can end up making you malnourished. You should still try to eat some protein and some grain/breads. Just limit yourself. Excersize can help drastically if you do it right. Try jumproping (you can use an imaginary jumprope if you don't own one) for about 5 minutes and then jog in place 500 steps a day. Also do at least 100 jumping jacks throughout the day. Do those things everyday and keep weighing yourself. My dad lost 40 pounds in 4 months doing those excersises. Thats like 10 pounds a month!!!

- Do not only stick to one food group. You NEED good carbohydrates (whole grain), protein (lean meats like turkey, chicken, eggs, salmon, tuna), and good fast (omega-3s) - The healthy amount to lose each week is 1-2 pounds. ANymore than this isn't healthy, and yes, if you lose 20 pounds in one months, then i'm sure you won't maintain this. - You should be eating at least 1200 calories a day, broken up into 6 small meals at about 200-300 calories each. - Don't forget exercise! You need both cardio and strength training like Pilates or weight training, etc. - I don't know how much weight you'd lose doing this, but I don't want to know. It isn't a smart idea. I recommend you do what i listed above and you will see a healthier, better you!

I'm not sure what the hell these ribbons mean but usually ribbons are used in lieu of medals awarded. Do you want everyone to think you are a hero or more than what you really are?

No, actually I'd say grips is a loser. Trust me when I tell you I earned every award and medal that I received in the Air Force. People that dog a specific service are usually just ignorant of what that service acutally does or they wish they had joined that one instead of the one they're in.

you will get the NDSM and if you score high enough on the target range, you might get Sharpshooter. anything else, is probably not going to happen, unless the AF gives out ribbons for little things like passing the PFT. which everybody has to pass anyway.
