I defragged my hard drive as it was running slow (on Windows XP).
Now the sound is very poor quality using either Media Player or Winamp whether playing an mp3 file, or a CD, or streaming music from the internet.
Can you advise how to get the sound quality back to normal??
Thanks Troutsteel

Defragging your HD won't affect your sound quality. You should really check your speakers and your sound card. This seems to be a hardware problem.

go to control pane/sounds and audio devices, click it open go to volume tab click on advanced and make sure all boxes are unchecked and levels are maxed out.
if this does not work,
go to desktop, right click My Computer choose hardware, choose device manager then scroll down to sound and video devices, open it by clicking the+sign then find your sound card on the list and right click on it and update the drivers.
hope this helped.
