No. Antibiotics are specific to certain problems. Unfortunately I have a history of UTIs and in most cases have been prescribed Ciproflaxin. You'll have to see your dr. to get a RX for this. Meanwhile, drink lots of water and cranberry juice. This will help somewhat but you should still get a prescription. Good luck!!

Hi,
Majority of antibiotics cure a urinary infection as these are mostly caused by commom bacteria. It is the rare bacteria that require specialised antibiotics. Broad Spectrum antibiotics such as amoxicyllin or penicillin should clear the infection fine. Also with a UTI drink alot of water and use something like citravescent or take some cranberry capsules to delay bacteria growth and correct the pH balance of the urinary tract.

Hope this helps :)

no. bacteria causes yourinfection, and there are bacteria of different tpes and shapes. doctors guess at which antibiotic will help you, and then they make a culture of what has infected you. in a couple of days, if they gave you a mismatched antibiotic, they will call you and prescribe a new one.
i think there are some antibiotics that are super strong and work on all kinds of bacteria... however, the stronger the antibiotic, the more it can make you feel tired and nauseous. plus, overuse of these antibiotics can lead to more resistant strains of bacteria.
you'll need to go to the doc to get a prescription for the infection. another thing that helps along with antibiotics are cranberry pills.

Yes there are, but you should go to a doctor in medicine to order a test to know what is affecting you and prescribe the adequate and specific antibiotic which works better for your condition. Some of this infections may be very difficult to control. I hope you do not have a bacteria. which would be the worst case and the least probable. Go on and take some kind of action.

I'm not sure about antibiotics CURING anything. But to prevent them and to more or less fix a current one.. You need to drink liquids. Preferably water, cranberry juice. There are cranberry pills there work just for this problem. You may think preventing yourself from going to the bathroom would help because you won't pee as much, but you urine needs to help clean your urinary tract out so drinking liquids is the key. Prevent them before you need to fix another and another and another.

No. Different antibiotics treat different strands of infection. You will need to take something like cipro or ciprofloxin (generic). Also if you use OTC products for Urinary Infections like Azo or anything that discolors your urine do not use it if you intend on going to your doctor. These products turn your urine and it is harder for your Dr. to pick up a urinary tract infection. It also discolors the urine dip stick used to determine if you have an infection or not.

Well temporarily, but the antibiotic will kill off healthy bacteria and allow bad bacteria to grow giving you a another infection.
Generally a Yeast infection.

It is better to drink the unsweetened Cranberry concentrate diluted with water (8 ounces of cranberry to 1 gallon of water)
Drink 8 ounces of it before every meal. It should fix it in two or three days of drinking the cranberry.

Leave it unsweetened (drink it will a straw if you need to it is tart) The sugar will feed the infection and keep it going.

Cranberry juice seems to be effective, but the most successful tonic I've seen is Beetroot Kvass. My partner has not had a recurrence after drinking the kvass for her last infection, which had been a regular occurrence for a couple of years.
Much better than antibiotics.

No...there are different antibiotics to target different bugs.

The bacteria that causes UTI's is most commonly E-Coli, though there are other causes for UTI's.

Your doctor may have to send a urine sample to the lab to be tested to determine exactly which bug is causing the problem.

These tests can take about 2 days, because they have to grow the culture in order to test it.
