I'm 17 and I hate tea and coffee. The other day my mum asked me when I was going to start drinking it, and I said never!

Is this normal? Will I ever change my taste and start liking it?

Tea and coffee, are very much an acquired taste. Over time, one connects the taste and aroma, with the forthcoming physiological effects. Caffeine is an addictive substance like nicotine. Therefore, you taste will change, if you start drinking these beverages. However, I don't recommend them. Even though, I thoroughly enjoy drinking them.

Hi,
With age your general taste will change. I didn't like tea and coffee until I was 25 y.o, but as I started working and that was the brew to drink, I joined in. I'm still not crazy about tea, but I love coffee now. You might never like it, you may come to stand it or who knows, you might become a coffee addict in a few years time ;-).

Think of the things you ate as a child, what you liked and didn't like. Those have probably changed somewhat now that you are 17. Thats normal, you slowly get introduced to different tastes and your taste buts will adjust accordingly.

By the way, not drinking tea or coffee isn't that bad.

I'd say it's normal. I didn't like coffee at all until I was about 30 and only like tea now and then.I used to always drink soda in the morning. I still could.
I started out drinking flavored cappucinos.
Whether your tastes change or not, so what? Drink what YOU like!

That is perfectly normal. You don't have to drink tea or coffee. Many people don't like the taste of it, some are allergic to it. Don't worry yourself about it. Just let your mom know that you just don't like the taste of it and it's not for you.

Yes that's fine, in fact I'd encourage never getting hooked. There are some benefits to drinking tea and coffee, but I'm sure you can get the same benefits from other foods, and caffeine is terribly addictive.

Don't worry about what you ae "supposed to like" and drink what you do like and don't apologize.

Nobody likes coffee. People start drinking it when the caffeine kick they get from sodas or tea stops getting them through the day. After a while, you learn to like the flavor, but it takes a while, and not everyone gets there.

I reckon you just aren't addicted to caffeine, yet. Good for you.

Wabby, we all have our own preferences when it comes to food and drink. You say you hate coffee and tea,but have you actually tried them (I'm not trying to be funny or rude),just asking. Have you ever tried an herbal tea, some are quite good. Not liking a certain food or drink, in my opinion, makes you normal.

When you hit 20, your bitter taste buds spread more from the back of your tongue to the front allowing you to to;lerate those bitter foods and drinks such as coffee.
