I was just looking at questions in the R&S section when to the left of the questions I see an advertisement inviting people to immerse themselves in the world of Harry Potter. I followed the link to http://harrypotter.yahoo.com/. Now I for one know that Harry Potter has absolutely nothing to do with pagan or neo-pagan beliefs but there are those that don't see Harry Potter as merely children's literature and for entertainment only. So my question is, does it offend others that in the R&S section there is an advertisement for Harry Potter?

Additionally, I am a Wiccan and do not have a problem with this, and I know that Harry Potter has nothing to do with witchcraft or real magick

for the fundies who freak out about harry, maybe they should teach their children that harry is not an accurate depiction of witchcraft, in fact it has very little to do with the craft, other than some tools and phrases. it wouldn't be so "scary" to them if they realized this. i wonder what kind of movies fundies let their kids watch?

I love Harry Potter, and I'm a Christian. I, however, am not a fundamentalist.
But really, looking at things I'd much rather have my children read a book about magic that has themes like love, friendship, loyalty, and the triumph of good over evil than a lot of the crap put out today. If I had kids, that is...
Nonetheless, Harry Potter is great. These days I find myself posting over on B&A about him more than discussing religion on R&S.

Well, there are people who consider me to be a fundamentalist. I am a Christian, at least. It doesn't bother me at all. I LOVE the Harry Potter books, and I can't WAIT until the fifth movie comes out. I also already pre-ordered Deathly Hallows. Oh, and we own the first six books, as well as all four of the movies that are out right now.
So no, no problem with Harry Potter at all.

Harry Potter for the win!!!!!!
And if Daniel up there was calling sex demons while he was "practicing" witchcraft...never mind. He wasn't. There is no way he was. He knows nothing about it and is attempting to smear the good faith and old ways. His God will judge him in the end.

To some of the more Zealot Fundies the fact the books were printed is enough to upset them.
I honestly think it depends on the particular bent of the particular froth at the mouth Fundy.

OK, now tell me what part of teaching kids to practice witchcraft is good?
I have seen one of the Harry Potter movies, and it was really well done, and a good movie. The content is scary, the same types of spells I dabbled in when I played with witchcraft, and that involved invoking sex demons, and trying to kill people.
It is NOT harmless, and is FIRE that can burn you. If kids want to watch it, their parents should be there with them to say it is just a movie, and not to copy it.
Riddle me this, batman: Why don't they make a movie about some kids who are converted to being Christians and are learning about all the miracles of creation? After all, we are in a world of TRUE equality.....or are we?
