Instead of getting a metal piece, can you instead wear the clear rings at first, immediately after getting it pierced?

Yes with either a glass quartz or pyrex retainer. Never use acrylic on a fresh piercing. Acrylic is bad for new piercings.

Before going in to get pierced you will need to see if they have any glass quartz or pyrex retainers in stock. If they don't they can order some to pierce you.

It depends on the place you are getting your lip pierced at. Often times they only have special rings to use for piercing, so I would check around to see which places would have what you want before you get pierced.

you can get glass bars to pierce with, but if you want a ring it's got to be metal - the clear ones are plastic retainers, and you can't pierce and heal with those, it has to be metal or glass in lips

well chances are if you get that put in first, it'll take more time to heal. my friend did that and they had to wait 3 more weeks after the healing time because it wouldnt heal as fast. but its your choice.
