Does stop loss typically only apply to those on active duty or is there a widespread problem of involuntary retention even though your 8 years are up?

Stop-loss and stop-movement generally only apply to persons who have been either alerted for deployment or alerted for mobilization.

If you are IRR and have not been alerted, your service commitment ends at eight years.

As far as I know - there is no MOS-specific stop-loss in effect at the moment.

EVERYONE, Active, Guard and Reserves are subject to Stop loss. if the unit you are in is tapped fro deployment during your EOS, then chances are, you will be stop lossed even though your 8 years are up. if the MOS/Rating/AFSC you have is in short supply, they can stop loss you as an individual.
