Cartlilage piercings hurt more than lobes, and they take longer to heal. Always get cartilage pierced with a needle, as the jewellry used to pierce with a gun is too blunt, and will cause far more trauma to the piercing, making it hurt more, and making it harder to heal and can cause more scarring. I would say it's more uncomfortable than painful, but the pain will vary from person to person. When it's done clean it with sea salt solution, (1/4 teaspoon sea salt to 1 cup warm water) about twice a day, other than that, leave it alone. Always wash your hands before you touch it, avoid touching it where possible, and keep your hair away from it. I personally prefer the look of them further down the ear, around the middle, but placement is up to you! Enjoy your piercing!

If you want it, i'd recomend it!
You want to have it done with a needle tho, the gun can lead to complications so the needles are actually the safer method.
it will take a little more time to heal than a lobe would.
You have to pick somewhere your happy with it, but the piercer will generally advise you if you make a choice that they think may affect the stability of the piercing itself. generally you can get it towards the rear top part, but you could have it at the front, half way down the back of the ear, it's really upto where you like the look of it.
plus get it pierced with a stud or something first, not a ring, rings can make the healing process longer.

for any piercing, the best thing is to get it done with a needle (it doesn't hurt any more, and it will heal better - guns are unsterile and cause more trauma to the piercing as it forces a blunt earring through - needles are sharper and sterile)
as for 'under the skin' - i've seen mixed reviews... ask around for other people's experiences. doesn't seem to have a website

I had mine done was I was 11 and it hurt like hell. It has been sore on and off through the 14 years since I had it done. I took it out 6 months ago cos I was sick of it - then decided to repierce it 3 weeks ago. I've had to take it out again cos it's so sore I can't sleep on it. It seems like the cartilage never heals and the slightest knock sets it off hurting again.
Anyway, it's up to you, just thought I'd warn you it's a pig to heal.

i have my cartillage pierced and i love it !!
its not sore with the gun, honestly. although it tends to get sore afterwards for about a week but its not that bad. this happens with guns and needles.
my friends got hers with a needle and you can actually see straight through it to the othr side and pull some earings through it.....
i would recommend getting the gun. =D x
