Tell them spirit is an alcohol we drink. And souls are lost people.
You'll be the man of recitation!

Well, the Holy Bible makes a distinction between the two. There's a verse that says the Word of God cuts apart the division of soul and spirit. I've been taught that the soul consists of your mind, will, and emotions whereas the spirit is the energy of life that flows through you.
Ironically, when looking up "soul" in the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance (Greek and Hebrew Lexicon), it defines it as "spirit". Furthermore, when a person becomes truly born-again, his or her spirit connects and communes with God's spirit and often times the spirit seems to have a deep sense or cognitive ability (more than just an energy flow).
So my understanding that the spirit as an energy of life may be way off or else not entirely complete. Or it could be that they are different yet intertwined like the scull and brain make up the head.
UPDATE: Another good point by starjumper. Another definition, or rather synonym, for spirit is ghost or angel. Also, when God breathed life into Adam, he became a living "soul". Maybe "life" and "living" are what define spirit.

God calls himself a Spirit in ... Genesis ! :1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. The spirit of a person is created and never destroyed . When the body dies the spirit lives on and goes to the kingdom of heaven if the person had turned from their sins (repented) and chosen to follow God.Or to hell if the person hasn't. SO much more I could say on this topic... The Bible refers to the soul as your innermost being, what makes you you in essence. Be careful online there is a lot of mis information. If you are really serious about God ALWAYS research if what you are reading lines up with what the Bible says.

Humans consist of 3 things: the body, the soul and the spirit. The body is the house of the real person and enables the person to perform physical things. The soul is the personality, intelligence and emotional part of the person. The spirit is what has it's connection to God. It is the spirit which communicates with God through Jesus Christ, and its the spirit that experiences the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ when its in Truth. When you die, your spirit and soul leave the body and you either go to heaven or to hell. Its just the shell which is left behind.

Hi... i know i'm a bit too late answering yr question, but i had to do a little research... it will be for own reference anyway...
in islamic teachings, the soul exists before one is born and will continue to exist after one's death... the spirit however is the connection between the soul and the material, mental, and emotional worlds... the spirit, unlike the soul, will be born with our first breath and will expire when we die...
this simple truth helps understand the connection between our physical and mental illnesses and diseases...!
i hope i helped u... good luck!

Humans and animals have souls. God breathes life into them. Souls die when the human and animal dies. The humans spirit returns to God and will be given the reward of heaven if that person believed in Jesus. The reward is everlasting life with a glorified, spiritual body. The spirit of the wicked or unbeliever has eternal death or hell as their future. I don't see anywhere in the Bible where it says animals have spirits. But they do have souls and souls die.

Both of them are Mental body, different from Physical body.
Spirit is a functional criteria of soul (mind body)
In other word,
Soul is a body of mind. Spirit is a function of mind.
Mind is a car. Soul is a driver. Spirit is ignition. Conciousness is driving the car. That is how the mind functions.

The soul is who you are at the very core. The spirit is the part of you that understands spiritual things. Peace.

Humans are basically spiritual beings after in the image of God just we have the flesh (body) form. While soul can be said as our emotion what makes a human being "ticked".
