It is glüwein, and the Germans pronounce "w" with a "vee" sound -- glooo-vine. It is regular red table wine mixed with at least sugar, sometimes a few green spices, cinnamon and served hot, just less than boiling. It's only good in freezing cold weather outdoors and it goes straight to your head. Two cups is all it takes.

Gluewein(gloo-vine). Red wine simmered with clove cinnamon, juniper berries, allspice, and sometimes orange zest. It is very popular during the holiday season in the German, Swiss, Austrian, and Dutch Christmas Markets. They give you the option of adding sugar, which you need because the cheap wine they use is so bitter. They also give you the option of adding brandy or schnapps, which you don't need because the cheap wine they use is so strong.

Also known as Gluewien, (Ithink pronounced 'Glue vine', because of its sticky cosistency when thrown up). LOL
