Sure they can. W and Cheney defend their lies all the time, but more and more people are seeing through the absurdity of their stupid arguments about 9-11 and the Iraq war. But I submit that blatant lies about 9-11 and other events cannot SUCCESSFULLY be defended, if intelligent people will think for themselves and look at the preponderance of evidence of the truth about 9-11, which will be exposed fully in the very near future, which will shock a number of people.

Here's the truth and it's nasty. American citizens have been left behind in the minds of their elected officials. The U.S. politicians see Americans as dumb and vulnerable, ready for exploitation.
Most U.S. politicians are globalists who see a future for the North and Central American continents that resembles the European Union with a communist/socialist government. These "elected" officials are pushing for extreme changes in the U.S. regardless of the wishes of the citizens of the United States. Globalism makes strange bed fellows like the Kennedys, Clintons, and Bushes being allied, all on the same side, regardless of how Americans vote. The belong to secret societies and attend meetings where the future of the U.S. is decided without the vote of the people.
If you and the people you know and love want the US. to continue as a country, you face some difficult decisions including overthrowing the current powers that are directing your country toward a far different future than you can imagine.
There will be no middle class and little freedoms for those who work for a living. The standard of living for Americans will plummet, the American Constituion will no longer be a viable document of freedom. You have to ask yourself is it worth the effort--do you want to fight for what your ancestors fought to give you?

Sure the GOP defends these lies everyday. They try and use scare tactics to keep the populace paranoid and keep the GOP in power. The trouble with that strategy is that America isn't cowards, albeit the right wing has a nice yellow streak down their backs, and finally Americans won't stand for lies about 911 or how Bush has defended America from another 911 attack. Funny how he forgets the 911 attack was on his watch.

Political lies are often defended with more lies. Look at the history of US involvement in Central America, Southeast Asia, Africa, etc. Most governments are corrupt (not only US) which is why citizens should keep them under intense scrutiny and pressure at all times.

A prudent government plans for any contingency.
They have to do it in a way that does not panic the population.
There is no conspiracy in such matters.

Ok, i havent read the body of your question, so im answering on the title only.
No, there is no such thing as a defendable lie. The question you need to ask yourself here is, if the actions are good and true, then why do you need to lie about it? Common sense tells you that if its the right thing to do, so therefore common sense should tell everyone else the same, so why would you need to lie?

I surely think of their taking on our u . s .. they are additionally destroying it. And making it risky. whilst Mexicans arise right here illegally, they don't understand the thank you to tension with our rules, inflicting injuries and deaths. yet then whilst the snow comes (i'm in Colorado Rocky Mountains, so we get a good number of snow) they harm so lots greater simply by fact they have not got snow in Mexico and so do not understand how do tension in it. We in basic terms had a truck get caught in our backyard, blockading the driveway for an hour or so and that i had to get to artwork! the motive force grow to be a Mexican, unknown if he grow to be unlawful or not. I applaud Bush for confronting this large and turning out to be project.
