There could be different reasons for sore eyes. Conjunctivitis leading to sore/gritty eyes needs treatment and is infectious. You can get eye drops/ointment from your pharmacy for that. Sore eyes could be down to allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and there are specific eye drops for that also. Or your soreness could be down to tiredness, a smokey atmosphere, or generally being rundown in health or other ailment. If you are otherwise well and have no other symptoms then try something like cold camomile tea bags (from peparing camomile tea) on each eye and lie down with these on closed lids for 15 minutes. I would explain your symtpoms to a pharmacist and he/she will prescribe eye drops based on your symptoms. Or alternatively you could see your doctor if this has been going on for some time and you have other issues with your health. Try to eat healthily, lots of fruit and vegetables for eye health, such as carrots, bell peppers, kale, blueberries and other black fruits.
Get an eye test at a decent Opticians if you haven't had one in a while, soreness could possibly be due to eyestrain.
Best wishes.

Viral in origin is untrue. You may have a cold/flu, but you may also be allergic to something.
Best remedy is to put a slice of cucumber over each eye for 30 minutes. If this does not work go to the pharmacy and get some Opticrom or other eye drops.

Sore eyes are viral in origin. They usually go away in three days.

Do not touch your eyes. Try to keep a distance from other people so they won't get it. lt is caused by a virus (in most cases). Try washing your eyes using clean water from time to time. Do it with your eyes open. Wipe excess water with clean tissue.

Put a metal/steel spoon into the freezer. In 5 minutes, take it out and put it onto your eyes until the spoon becomes warm again. I do it everyday because my eyes are always puffy in the morning. Works well..
