Their are 9 prerequisites to prayer.
1) Being Muslim
2) Sanity
3) age of discretion
4) ablution(washing)
5) cleanness from filth
6) Concealment of aura(body parts)
7) commencement of due time for each prayer
8) facing Makkah
9) intention to perform prayer.


I do not know what type of insanity your speaking of. But, in Islam you have to have a clear head that is not scrambled with thought. I would assume at certain times some people who suffer from insanity can pray. It would depend on the affect of the person at each given time of prayer.

In Islam a person who suffers from insanity has no obligation for praying 5 times a day.Praying in islamic teaching should be done in conscious way.
Praying is direct communication from human to Allah the only one God as the Greatest Creator.It is done quitely and focusly to our God Almighty.

i thought the ones that pray 5 times a day already have insanity.

if it's insanity than ofcourse not. such a misfortunate person is exempted from such obligations and will be rewarded in heaven for their sufferings.But if it's just some depression or anxiety then he/she should fight it by asking help from god and praying to him not act insane.
