There was an article in one of the tabloid papers about this lately perhaps this is what fired your question off
Andf why should it not be true we have the most exposure too our parents at our formative stages and yes I think there is a great deal of narcissim in how we chose our partners and again why not
Wheter this has something to ndo with the gene mix i dont know but nature and sociology are working for the survival of the species it seemto pan out in all forms of research

There is some statistical evidence to support the idea that people are attracted to people who look like themselves/their parent.
The way they measure this is to look at couples who are married and measure certain characteristics (including physical characteristics, such as hair colour, as well as sociological characteristics, such as political orientation) to see what degree of similarity there was.
There were three alternative hypotheses:
1) Opposites attract (characteristics matched less than expected than by chance alone)
2) People marry for commonality (characteristics matched to a greater extent than expected by chance alone)
3) There was no trend either way (characteristics between married couples were as predicted by chance)
What they found is that married couples are remarkably similar to one another, far more than expected by chance. The correlation coefficient was around 0.75-0.8 for most areas, indicating that tall people tend to marry tall people, blondes marry blondes (more so than expected by chance). Of the parameters that were measured, the highest was political orientation (correlation coefficient of 0.95, suggesting that 95% of married couples had similar political views)
There is an evolutionary explanation for this type of trend. The theory goes that if your father was fit enough to raise you to the point of having children of your own, then you should seek out a mate that shares similar traits to your dad, as he will be more likely to help you bring a child up to the point where they will also have children, thereby passing on your genes to the next couple of generations.
I would like to emphasize here that this is a very simplified explanation - you can read more detail about human evolution in Jared Diamond's 'The Third Chimpanzee'.
Also, bear in mind that this does not have to control who you date! Most of these things happen subconsciously, and to every rule there are many exceptions - especially in biology!

THAT IS SUCH A FASLSEHOOD !! for example; I've known M A N Y people of one race be romantically attracted!! Or is in a relationship !! LONGTERM with someone of a different culter or race !!!! But yes I have also known just a few young~ladies that wanted someone much like "DEAR ole DAD"But even some of them had qualities that set them apart from pretty much everyone`else!?! guess that was sort of a complement "R"`r.r,r'r.r`r,'->

I can honestly say I've never dated a woman that looked even remotely like my father!!!
But, it is true that women who have good relationships with their male authority figures in childhood seek men of like character and sometimes outward appearance to mate with. The opposite is also ofetn true: women who were abandoned or abused often seek men of totally different physical stature, but with some similar characteristics of the man they wish had remained in their presence. Psychology is a strange subject...

I think you are attracted to people that have raised you like your father. I know I was and my mom always tried to find a guy just like her dad who passed away when she was 16. I think we look for something that we feel comfortable and confindent with. I am not sure what you mean attracted to thos who look similar to themselves. Hope this helps.

They say that some women, who have a healthy relationship with their dad, do look for the same traits that they find in their fathers. Although, with people like me, who have a very bad relationship with their fathers, we go for the complete opposite. My other half is nothing like my dad and has none of his traits.

Very funny, but there is no way that I'm gonna get attracted to somebody that look like me or look like mom or dad, just no way. My answer is "no" it's not true unless you think your dad was a good looking guy.

When we like someone or get attracted to someone it means we like their nature, their behavior, their psychology, their way of thinking, their feelings etc. All these are inner qualities but what we see is their face so we say i like this person & our subconcious mind feels that all person with simillar face has same qualities so if your father is very good in nature your subconcious mind says all man with beared are as good as your father so u like all man with beard but its not the way to judge a person.

i think is true in terms of character and some characteristics.
such as height, beard, strong hands
it is the subconscious trying to find a perfect father for your children, so guess it would depend on how you viewed your father.
