J/K, tell him or her how you feel and what you have been doing. Try to avoid the sad and depressing stuff, that can be really distracting.

Relative to the standards the Navy is willing to accept I would write:

Be careful what you send them if they are in training. They can get a lot of crap from stuff they receive through the mail. Keep it clean, and try to avoid sending him stuff like... oh say a stuff toy (really bad idea)...
