In the past my pets have had flees but nothing serious. This summer howvever is different. For the first time my house is infested. The carpets the garage and all over. I've bathed the dogs w/ flea killer, used flea collars, and carpet powders, and iv'e sprinkled salt before I vacum. I've even washed all types of clothes and fabrics in my house with hot water but the fleas seem to be invincible. I think it's because I live near a horse community and my neighbors have farm animals. Please, does anybody have any advise for my situation.I'll take any drastic advice.

You can only do one thing. That is go to the Veterinarian and buy Frontline or Advantage brand flea treatment for your cats and dogs. I prefer the Frontline treatment because my cat seemed a bit lethargic for 24 hours after the application of Advantage. Also you have to buy a special flea spray from the Vet that you spray on the floor and carpets. The spray costs about $20. It is a special spray that you spray holding the can upside down. The stuff from the Veterinarian are the only things that work. They have special ingredients that kill the flea and break the life cycle of the fleas. Nothing else works. Foggers are useless.

Frontline plus. It costs about $15 a tube and it actually works. Don't waste money on things that don't work. Most vets will sell it one tube at a time. (at least they do here)

For your house go to WalMart and buy Mule Team Borax from the laundry detergent section. It's about $3 a box. Sprinkle it all over the carpets and walk it in. Leave it. It will kill the fleas because it has boric acid in it. I buy about 4 boxes a year and just douse the carpets and yard with it. You can also put it on furniture and sprinkle it on baseboard cracks. If and when you vaccum it up throw the bag out. The fleas hatch eggs every ten days. So you might have to do this twice at ten day intervals. It will work though.

It should cost you less than $25 to get the fleas under control and about $15 per month to keep them that way if you just get the better products.

Some advice? yes, take a shower!! youve managed to clean the whole house but not yourself you slob. Those poor animals suffer due to all those ticks and fleas on your head. No just messin. Like you said you are correct, its because you live around a farm community, Horses are the #1 carrier of fleas or ticks in a farm communty. its a fact, google it. They soon spread to pigs, sheep, dogs and cats. The best thing to do is to build a fenced area for your pets, or controll the places you let them roam. You see your dogs roams to the best smelling places, other live stock, what happens?, flea swapping.

Just keep in mind that summer is prime time for flea breeding. the problem wont disappear in one week it normally takes about three weeks to clear the house of the problem. You should start preparations every year before summer starts that way you won't have this problem again. Take the advise of the others(using borax, advantage, etc) i'm in the same boat as you and it works. You just have to be persistent and consistent. Good luck.

well first of all make sure your pets don't have any fleas this way the fleas cant breed and will just die away. If you want to get rid of them quicker call an exterminator.
fleas are pretty much invincible they don't drown or die of salt. i also recommend for your pets a thing called 'advantage' which is a sticky liquid that you put on the backs of their necks and if that doesn't work flea tablets they are quite Strong things.
good luck

Treat all of your animals with flea drops, such as Revolution. Then buy something called a bug fogger; they should be sold in Home Depot with instructions. They work wonderfully and should work on your clothes as well.
