I am a dedicated atheist, and the most ridiculous part of the bible, to me, is Noah's Ark. The impossiblity of gathering 2 of EVERY species of animal makes me laugh. Also, the ark would have had to be bigger than all the earth's landmass, impossible to be built by men. I want to know if atheists agree, and why christians disagree.

Even without fish and birds, other species estimate to around 40-50 million. Some of which are MUCH larger than a sheep. I don't think you have quite grasped it. Two of EVERY species. Its not a giraffe, lion, elephant, cat, sheep. Its Bengal tigers, Indian Elephants the size and amount of these creatures is just impossible. Also, the tiny insects who can't fly. Catching two of each? Impossible.

Evidently, you seem to believe this Ark was a miracle. Fine. Now explain to me LOGICALLY if it ever could be possible. Im expecting two word answers...

DbumsKitty. By the time man had evolved, the continents had long since broken up, due to EXTREME convection currents, long before the 150,000 years man has been around. Also, has God suddenly become Dr Doolittle? How does he whisper things to the animals?!

Noah's Ark is rather ridiculous but no more ridiculous that parting the Red Sea for people to walk across... The stories in the bible are blatant fiction, fairytales written by man to govern and control other men...

The dimensions for the ark given in Genesis are 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high

This equates to 550 feet long, 91.7 feet wide and 55 feet high. how much storage space does this amount to? Well, 550 x 91.7 x 55 = 2,773,925 cubic feet. (If we take the smaller measurement, 17 inches, we end up with 1.278,825 cubic feet). Of course, not all of it would have been free space. The ark had three levels and a lot of rooms, the walls of which would have taken up space. Nevertheless, it has been calculated that if the ark had only 1,518,750 cubic feet of free space, a little more than half (54.75%) of the 2,773,925, it could store up to 125,000 sheep-sized animals

john woodmorappe, author of the definitive noah's ark: a feasibility study, estimated that only about 15% of the animals on the ark would have been larger than a sheep. this figure does not take into account the possibility that God may have brought noah “infant” animals, which can be significantly smaller than adult animals.

Helps to know a little bit about the religion you want to bash before you go ahead and bash it.

MOST christians and branches of christianity do not take the bible literally. They do not think that word for word it is an accurate description of history. Rather, most of the bible is acknowledged to be parables to help convey a message to the audience.

Why would an ark have to be bigger than all of the earth's landmass? All of the animals in the world live on earth right now. So, according to your argument, we would need an ark bigger than the earth to put fewer animals (only 2 of each) than are already on earth, onto the ark.

Again, do somehomework and re-think your arguements before you go out and bash something you have such little knowledge about.

There is always the belief that the earth used to be one big land mass and some major event changed it into seven. If an ark was built, it could have been when we had one giant continant.

If it was a metiphorical ark and flood, why are there many Christian findings of ark pieces and seashells on high mountians?

There is a record of some sort of flood in most religions of the world. All different versions of the same story. That, to me, would be more proof a flood actually happened, not a story out of one faluable book (the Bible, obviously).

Sorry about my misspellings. Hope I gave more to think about.

I am a atheist, and I think that having every species on board of one ship in those would have been a logistical nightmare.
There was a dutch guy however, who built a replica of the ark, alone and without much equipment.
By the way, he wouldn't have to take two of every species, Fish could have stayed swimming, Birds could have stayed in the sky, and some species reproduce alone, so there he would not have needed two.

How could The Earth and The Universe have ever been possible?

The arc was built that big, not in a few months, but if i'm not mistaken, took 10 years. Now, doesn't it make what initially thought impossible to be built, possible? Others in list; the Great Wall of China, the Gaza Pyramid..

" Whispered guidance "

That's more than a two word reply that you requested. . . yet, that's my reply.

Might the message have been " whispered "/ messaged somehow to all the creatures to come to the ark in pairs ?

Of course we can't know. . . yet, theres my thought to your question of " how can that be possible ".

And...as far as the size of the ark to contain all the creatures. The Divineness of " God " the One is boundless. It's simply our concepts of things that has limitations.

Accurate or not ? Don't know. My thoughts are left here none the less.

Accually on discovery channel they have an eposide about it and how they think it was real execpt not world wide. They believe it was in the middle east or somewhere over there but the area wasnt new to flooding. Except God told Noah to build a boat and go with his family.

God help all atheists, they will defantly believe when they are dead and burning in hell becuase they dont believe. But thats your own choice. I would raither be saved =D.

Genesis 6 gives some interesting information.
Nothing in the Bible says the animals were full grown specimens. And the size of the Ark was enormous.
1 cubit = approximately 18 inches.
450' long
75' wide
45' high
brings us to 1,518,750 cubic feet.
(think, "super-tanker.")

Atheist? ok, you have no god.
But if you did, just how big would your god be?

With God, all things are possible. Miracles occur.

LONDON -- Noah's Ark has been found on the Turkish-Iranian border, 32 kilometres from Mount Ararat, according to the leader of a team of scientists that has been investigating the site for six years.

The Turkish government is so convinced by the findings that, after years of intransigence, it has designated the site one of special archaeological interest and agreed to its excavation next summer.

The remote site contains a buried, ship-like object, resting an altitude of 2,300 metres. At 170 metres long and 45 metres wide, it conforms almost exactly to the 300 cubit by 50 cubit boat that God told Noah to build, according to Genesis 6 in the Bible.

On surrounding terrain, the American and Middle Eastern scientists have identified huge stones with holes carved at one end, which they believe are "drogue-stones," dragged behind ships in the ancient world to stabilise them. Radar soundings indicate unusual levels of iron-oxide distribution.

Salih Bayraktutan, head of geology at Turkey's Ataturk University, estimates the age of the 'vessel' at more than 100,000 years. "It is a man-made structure and for sure it is Noah's Ark." The site is directly below the mountain of Al Judi, named in the Koran as the Ark's resting place.

David Fasold, an American shipwreck specialist with no religious affiliation, has led the investigation. He says subsurface radar surveys of the site have produced "very good pictures." "The radar imagery at about 25 metres down from the stern is so clear that you can count the floorboards between the walls."

He believes the team has found the fossilised remains of the upper deck and that the original reed substructure has disappeared. But the findings have infuriated the scores of Christian Ark-hunters who travel to Turkey, convinced the Ark will only be found on Mount Ararat.

Fasold, who calls himself an "Arkologist," also argues that it was not a great flood that pushed the Ark into the mountains. He says it was "an astronomical event causing a tectonic upheaval, a tidal bore causing gravitational pull in the ocean waters that forced the boat into the mountains."

Some of Fasold's team of geophysicists and geologists are reserving final judgement until the excavation and carbon-dating. But in a British TV series on the environment next month, team member Vendyl Jones, a Middle East archaeologist and inspiration for film character Indiana Jones, says it is "between maybe and probably" that they have found Noah's Ark.

Prologue: The Quranic verse detailing about the resting place of the Noah's Ark is found in The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 11,Verse 44. The verse says:

When the word went forth: "O earth! swallow up thy water and O sky! withhold (thy rain)!" and the water abated and the matter was ended. The Ark rested on Mount Judi and the word went forth: "Away with those who do wrong!"

The 49th verse of the same Chapter says:

Such are some of the stories of the Unseen which We have revealed unto you: before this neither you nor your people knew them. So persevere patiently: for the end is for those who are righteous .
