There are people here on Y/A who think that if they don't know if they have the Holy Spirit no one else can know if they do either. What are you thought's on this?
(I believe from a Christian point of view it is more correct to ask if the Holy Spirit has you but we don't want to confuse people too much)

To some it could be a tingly feeling when they pray, for others it could be senseless spasms on the floor and talking nonsense. I don't think it matters one way or the other, just be thoughtful towards others.

I do not believe that we can know that we have the Holy Spirit through a certain feeling or anything. I can know I have the Holy Spirit only because the scriptures teach that Christians receive the Holy Spirit at the point they are water baptized. (Acts 2:38). The Holy Spirit is one of the persons of God and to know Him and understand Him is no more simple than understanding the other persons of God. The tiniest atom consists of 3 parts. Yet we don't fully understand the atom. What makes us think we can fully understand God in all His glory? I do like what you said about if the Holy Spirit has you. To say that the Holy Spirit indwells you, is equivalent to saying you have fellowship with Him. Christianity is a relationship.

Acts 2:38 says "repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus
Christ and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
all baptisms in the Bible were done in the Name of Jesus Christ,
not the father, son, and Holy Ghost.
Our Baptism represents Death, Burial, and Resurrection.
Repenting of sin, is our spiritual death,
Going under the water is our burial.
and coming out of the water, arising in the newness of life, Born again of the Holy Ghost is our resurrection.
When people have the Holy Ghost, they can discern scripture.
1 Cor. Chapter 2, states that the Word is written in a mystery,
that the mind of man can not understand the mystery, but that the Holy Ghost will reveal it to His own. ( this is paraphrased)
So when you have the Holy Spirit, (Or Holy Ghost), one of the things you will be able to do is to understand scripture, to enjoy it and it feeds your soul.

In my opinion you know that you have the Holy Spirit when you are changed. What I mean by that is you don't do the things you used to do or say the things you used to say. The Holy Spirit guides you in the way of truth and comforts you. That's how people know, is they can see the change in your life. People with the Holy Spirit display Godly characteristics. When they want to act or respond one way they don't because they choose to allow what's on the inside to work for them.

How do you know you have the Holy Spirit?
Do you love Jesus and keep his word? That's all he asks. Do this, and you already have the Holy Spirit.
"Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him." (John 14:23)
No big public carnival production of your charismatic gifts needs to be made. Do you love Jesus? Then the Holy Spirit is ALREADY with you.

I would have to say I knew it when I started reading the Bible and couldn't put it down. Instead of it being boring, as I had tried to read it so often in the past, it opened my eyes to all kinds of spiritual understanding and discernment that I didn't have before. I had prayed before I read a paraphrased edition of John's Gospel. I can even remember where I was and what i was doing-I was sitting in a car in Enfield, IL babysitting an oil well we were drilling in January of '86. Snow was on the ground, streets were clear and sun was out in the morning. I couldn't put it down and read for hours and hours for about 8 to 10 years. I still read it and spiritual wisdom, discernment and understanding jump out at me. I have to keep a pen nearby to write it all down. That's how I knew.

I know because Jesus promised to send the Spirit to us. He said He would not leave us orphans.
John 16:
7 But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
8 And when he comes he will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation:
9 sin, because they do not believe in me;
10 righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me;
11 condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.
13 But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming.

In addition, if you have been baptized, you have received the Holy Spirit.

You will have this warm feeling inside your body. and you will feel the lord is right their beside you, you will feel his present. like the Lord say in his word, he will not leave you. the Lord word is true. The Holy Spirit makes you shout, It makes you cry, it makes you dance in a spiritual way. It makes you wanted keep praising the Lord.
