I find it fascinating and wish I would be called for jury duty! Seems like those who want to serve never get called!

I don't know how to get out of showing up, so I can only offer this advice.
If you go through the process and find you still don't want to be there, then you just have to say you have already formed an opinion and you don't believe it will change.
At least this will let you go home, and let someone else who truely wants to be ther serve in your place.
good luck.

You cannot legally avoid it, but if you get a jury summons there are options for you about getting it postponed or deferred. Read all the papers that come to you in the mail from the court and if you have any questions about anything then call the court. The phone number will be on the documents. Jury duty is one of the responsibilities of being a citizen of this country.

As George Carlin once said, (when you are going through the process of being chosen) "I know I'm the perfect man for the job cause I can spot a guilty person *snap fingers* just like that!"

In reality, it's too bad that you do not want to do it, so for the sake of the prosecution and the defense, its best that you do get out of it. Just make sure you sound like you are stubbornly more for the defense or the prosecutions side and then the other will can ya.

Add in: Chipilona, covered it well IMO.

I legally avoided jury duty one time by showing the judge that I had been subpoenaed as a witness in the same case, and I was released.

What a great citizen you are. Perhaps you don't vote either? Or maybe you even avoid working to keep you neighborhood a safe and clean place to live by participating with your neighbors? Unfortunately, there are to many in our free democracy like you. Avoid that jury duty at all costs.

Show up scream racial slurs. Cover everyone, who knows when a Samoan might go on a killing spree? You'll never get picked. Then go home secure in the knowledge you've done less than bare minimum amount you can do as a citizen.
