the only that holds maximum useful in my reminiscence isn't from Sacrament assembly, yet District convention. there became a sparkling district president who had in simple terms moved to the section and wasn't accustomed to the quirks of the individuals... it became common to request various branches to furnish the hollow and shutting prayers. properly - the hollow prayer became provided by way of a guy who became infamous with the locals for happening and on and on. the hollow prayer lasted extra advantageous than 20 minutes. i will nonetheless remember some 30+ years later, glancing as much as make certain that I hadn't neglected some thing and a communication had started, yet this little previous guy became nonetheless praying away essentially - it did no longer help, in this occasion, that we've been residing foreign places and none in my relatives have been fluent interior the language... and because it became a prayer, the missionaries weren't appearing as translators.

If your friend has a serious emotional issue, the bishop is normally unequipped to handle this. "Prayer and scripture study" only makes church or 'worthiness' issues much worse, and if his parents refuse to let him see a professional (not a church leader), he may become another unpublished mormon 'statistic'.
The never-attainable 'worthiness' doctrine affects many young men deeply and severely, and ultimately may destroy themselves with undeserved guilt and shame.
Now it the time to be the 'best' part of 'best friend'.

Why worry? I know he's your friend and you're concerned, but in reality it's none of your business. It is his life and his choice, and you have no right to try to convince him to change and conform to what you want. If he doesn't want to do something, it wouldn't be very friend-like to make him change his ideas so you'd be more comfortable with him. How would you feel if he tried to convince you to live more like him? Put yourself into his shoes. Sorry.

I don't know if you have something to worry about or not. Mormons worry about the outside of people, but when I went Punk as a Mormon, it was to get dad to stop being attracted to me, he was an extreme OCD Mormon and was sexually attracted to me, this kid may not have problems like this and what is going on inside of him, may not have anything to do with what you see on the outside, as long as he is not on drugs, or swearing or smoking or hanging out with the wrong crowd, he is still a mormon with a differnat look.
There are many emo's Goth and weird looking teens in our nondenominational church, and skaters to, we except them as they look and have no problem with how they look on th outside. They worship God and even partisipate in leadership positions in the church, thsi brings other teens who arelike them to the church and then they get saved and they become involved in the church as well and bring more teens like them, its one thing you mormons have not realized, in trying to be to squeeky clean looking.

Did his parents ever consider taking him to a professional? He might be suffering from depression.
