im pretty skinny: 13 yrs old, 5'1, and 100 pounds. however, im not in the best shape. i dont usually eat too much but im not in shape. im not in any camps or sport/fitness programs and i havent gotten much physical activity over the past few months, except for some random days. do i still need much physical activity if im in pretty good health already? i already posted this question but didnt get any "great" answers. im not anorexic!-i look absolutely normal, just skinny.

Believe it or not a lot of asian people are considered obese.. even though most of them are "skinny" its because a lot of them eat a low fat diet but don't get a lot of excersise. Everyone needs exercise of some kind

It is great if you can get into the habit of being more active in your every day life. You do not need to play a sport or go on a camp or whatever just so long as you do something. Everybody needs at least 30min of physical activity everyday so think about what you would enjoy and do that. If you like a sport but do not want to compete then join a social club or get together friends with a similar interest for a social game every week. If you love to dance you can do this at home when no one is looking or maybe get into a dance workshop for Hip Hop or belly dancing or any other style that takes your fancy. If you know what you like then it will be easy to choose something to do.

When I was younger everyone use to be like oh, your soo skinny. your so lucky. and they'de assume I was healthy. truth is, I ate horribly. I didn't do a whole lot, and I got sick just like everyone else. In 2 months i'll be 18. When I was 14, my mom took me to the gym and got me a lifetime membership. Obviously I know most people aren't that fortunate. I've been working out there for about the last 4 years, and you wouldn't believe how healthy I look now. Im still skinny yes, but you can definitely see the healthy 'glow' thing going on. I don't get sick much anymore, or I get over it really fast, i have sooo much more energy and Im more happy and confident. So get out there. Work out if you can. Jog, stretch, dance!

It's always healthy to exercise. Try swimming if you don't like running. Even try getting a fun exercise equipment (I love the Gazelle). Even if you are not 'fat', it's always great for you to exercise. You're organs will benefit from it! You will also feel better about yourself. If you get a fun fitness routine going, you are more likely to do it. If I were you, I wouldn't get a treadmill, those things are boring and only keep someone like me motivated for a couple of days! Good luck!!!!
(To your edit)
I would exercise half an hour each day. I do an hour, but I'm an athlete. If half an hour, after a couple of weeks, doesn't give you the results you want, up it by ten minutes. REMEMBER TO STRETCH BEFORE!!!! I've pulled so many muscles by stretching poorly!

Skinny is fine. You need to exercise to be healthy. At least go for a walk, take the dog for a walk, go up and down some stairs. You will feel better when you tone up and exercise. Want to see the difference being in shape can do for you. Watch Rocky I when he's a bum fighter and out of shape. Then he gets in shape and when he can finally run up the steps. He feels good about himself, strong, in charge. Figure out some type of exercise program. You won't regret it.

I'm kind of skinny too, though I think you're doing better than me. I'm about 5"3 or 5"4 and until a few weeks ago I was 100 lbs. Right now I'm 102 lbs but I can't seem to get the weight rising anymore. Weightlifting is good for gaining muscle weight. Muscle weights more than fat.

I'm not sure if you want the objective answer to the question you asked but i will provide it: According to the Department of Health and Human Service's website's body-mass index calculator you have a body mass index of 18.9. Also, it should be noted that only a BMI of less than 18.5 is underweight and that any BMI between 18.5-24.9 is normal weight. So you are on the low side of people with normal weight, yet not underweight or overweight.

5 foot 1 at 100 pounds tells me you are not skinny. I am going to assume you are developed already (you wear a bra).
There is a big difference between your percentage of body weight that is fat and being in shape. In shape usually means the your muscles and joints are stronger than normal. Your cariovascular (heart, arteries and veins) are superior to the average. And you have the ability to get the maximum oxygen out of every breath.
If you don't like to work out, then don't, but you will have more sickness, depression, and body aches than the rest of us.

i wouldn't worry too much.
make sure you're getting nutrients from your foods, even the ones you think are unimportant.
and exercise is good. you can just do jumping jacks during commercials when you're watching TV or do ten pushups every morning when you get out of bed.
but, don't be too pressured to be thin. it's important to be healthy, there's a difference.
