I know it takes 7-8 years to become a dentist, how many additional years does it take to become and Oral surgeon. And is it 2-3 years to become an Endodontist? Thx!

Depends on which Oromaxillofacial Surgery program you can match into..

If you match into a dual-degree OMFS program that grants an MD degree, it is 6 more years after dental school (the program will send you to attend third- and fourth-year medical school to get your MD degree).

If you match into an OMFS program that does not grant an MD degree, it is 4 more years after dental school.

About half of the OMFS programs in the U.S. are 6-year dual-degree programs. Needless to say, OMFS programs are extremely competitive to get into, and extremely challenging to complete!

Hope this helps.

HELLO,
MUCH OF THIS DEPENDS ON THE TRAINING PROGRAM OFFERED BY THE SCHOOL. SOME TRAINING IS 2-3 YEARS AFTER DENTAL SCHOOL. OTHERS, DECIDE TO ALSO PURSUE A MEDICAL DEGEE AFTER THEIR DDS OR DMD, WHICH ADDS AN ADDITIONAL 4 YEARS TO THE PROGRAM.
