Oh, yes, right away - they get much more irritated if you don't. If you want, you can prepare the family emergency background, but you don't need to. Call the number on the jury summons today, say you missed the jury call yesterday because of a family emergency and need to be rescheduled. It is routine in Dallas County although I have only done it in advance when I was going to be out of town on the call date.

RE:
I have forgot to go to my jury duty. What will happen? It was yesterday so will it be wise to call them today?
I live in Texas (Brazoria County). I am scared out of my mind on what will be the cosequences.

Absolutely, call them today. Tell the truth (it's the easiest story to remember). Ask if it is too late to serve, which it probably is, since all the jurors were "qualified" on the first day of service. Ask to be put in the next jury pool and find out if you need to make a personal appearance before the presiding judge to explain your absence. Failure to appear in response to a jury summons is considered contempt of court, and can result in a fine, time in jail (usually a few days), or both. I bet you don't forget next time!

Oops! :) Did you only receive a summons or did you call them to make sure that you were scheduled? In Nevada, a person will get a summons, but you have to call the day before to see if your number is on the list. (I received 4 summons before being called.) If that is the case, then you might not have missed it. It is still best to call them and make sure that you didn't miss it. If you don't call them and you did miss it, then you could be held in contemt of court, which could lead to a fine and/or jail time depending on the judge.
But don't panic! You are not the first to have forgotten and not the last. As long as you call, they will take care of it. If you don't call, then you will have a problem.

You didn't have a family emergency, so it's probably not a good idea to lie about it.
You didn't do it on purpose so it's not like you're going to jail. Call them first thing in the morning and explain the situation. At worst you might get a fine.

Call them, they will give you a date that you have to appear for jury duty...show up! If you don't they will prosecute you, but, they know things can happen.

Howdy pardner, same thing happen to me. Don't lie just call and tell them like it is. I called and they simply reschedule and I strongly recommend not to ignore it. Even if it is more than one day it is better to call and be honest about it they are not going to prosecute you, but not calling is like asking for trouble.

If you hear a knock on your door then you better hide in the attic. After all you are in Texas!
