even though we might not understand what this term means(father) in this verse we can be sure that the bible means what it means....not what we want it to mean...........now i do beleive this only means not to call anyone father who would lead you in spritual matters as there is only one father there...

Anti-christs do that.

They do what Christ said not to do.

Christ said (Matthew 23:9)

"And call no man your father on the earth: for one is your Father, even he who is in heaven. "

And they do exactly what is prohibited by Christ.

Correction - Your personal, unauthoritative, simplistic guess about the meaning of that passage says it is not allowed. Do you think maybe Paul never read Matthew? Because Paul wrote, "if you were to have countless tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I BECAME YOUR FATHER through the gospel. Imagine! A major scriptural writer defying scripture!

In fact, Paul realized what the Church of the Apostles, the Holy Catholic Church, still realizes today - that pastors of the flock do exercise a spiritual fatherhood over those entrusted to their care, a fatherhood always subservient to the supreme Fatherhood of God.

Have you ever read the next verse after the one you quoted? It says not to call any man your teacher. Maybe you can come back later and look even sillier by criticising every church that has anyone in a teaching ministry.

We also really need to change the education system as well. Matthew 23:10 And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. Wow I wonder if perhaps we need to read the whole chapter and put it in context. You do realize that taking scripture out of context is the same as blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

Sorry I was reading the nkjv. In other versions it says leader as well. But following the kjv makes sense. So since the Word of God is His Word and has been since the begging of time;Exodus 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Actual means God. So the mother is Mary?

you're examining an English translation. Jesus did not communicate English. each time a translation is made, do not anticipate there to be a particular word which we now advise father, or daddy, or dad or papa or in spite of. Languages do not paintings that way. i comprehend I as quickly as pronounced "John, the baptizer" and became into corrected by potential of a Baptist that it became into John the Baptist. Then somebody got here upon the unique Aramaic word. She asked what does it advise. It purely potential somebody who baptizes. Over basic minded people think of for any word in English there's a corresponding word in yet another language and vice versa. The word Jesus used has been given by potential of English translators to be father, yet we can't say that father has the comparable top which potential because of fact the awareness Jesus used.

Clearly your all idiots. (Excluding Blue Angel). This verse doesn't literally mean father, like your dad. It means God. Hence it is saying, call no man on earth God, nor should you worship a man. As Blue Angel stated the wording isn't clear. After all it does take SOME common sense

I am not an expert, but I believe that this verse tells us to worship no man and to consider no man to be a God. Something we have to keep in mind is that the Bible was written in a different language. Some words might have more than one meaning in English or and English word may have more than one meaning in Hebrew. I'd suggest to get a Bible with side notes, they clarify a lot of things that language barriers muddle.

You know this does backfire on some people. People claim the Catholics changed the Bible. If that were true, they DEFINITELY would have taken out this verse. It is interesting that it survived the Catholic Church's dominance. An indication that they did not pervert the scriptures.

This is a Roman Catholic title given after extensive study and examination. To criticize it as calling the priest "God" is ridiculous and stupid.
