When you look at the worst people in the world today and historically, you will almost always find a self righteous person.
Religion is almost always the culprit, although there are exceptions. The reason why religion manufactures self righteous automitons is because religions advocate a particular brand of morality, and to do this successfully, you must also assert that all other moral codes are bad/false.
Being self righteous is saying "my religion is the ONLY acceptable way of life and moral code, therefore discussion, compromise, or diplomacy is and affront to God who has already stated what the right code is. Either you conform to my view or ..."

Aethism generally portrays itself as a victim of religion because it needs a reason to justify wiping out a group of people who do nothing to them except believe what they want. If hearing the word "Jesus" or seeing the cross makes atheists feel like vampires exposed to the sun, it isn't any ones fault but theirs. If you want to compare atrocities, however, atheists killed 100 million people just last century with communist governments, and you have to go back centuries to find any real victims of Christians, which says something.

For the human beings making slick feedback approximately "they did it interior the Bible," those weren't Christians. Christianity began out as a non violent faith. historic previous corroborates that the 1st century Christians did no longer get entangled in any affairs of state, conflicts, etc. on the different hand, they have been hunted down, persecuted and murdered for his or her ideals and refusal to work together in violence. in the process the a protracted time, as paganism and apostasy entered into the Christian congregation (as prophesy foretold could take place), and the "Church" got here into play, then definite - Christendom is responsible of a ton of violence in the process historic previous. As for myself, i'm hoping i could by no potential kill. If it occurs simply by self protection, then which would be between myself and God. whether i'm judged adversely for it, i could could wait and spot. in any different case, i would not %. up palms or intentionally attempt to inflict harm upon every physique.

It is the only way they can acheive power. It is sort of an emotional currency set up in a sort of pyramid-scheme of power. If you dont pretend you have all the answers, how can you market your 'product' and sell it. Are people evangelizing out of genuine concern for the person they are trying to convert or to 'earn' acceptance to the group. Are they trying to help and heal or are they trying to convert? Whats up with all these cds and tapes and systems?? Wheres the product? LOL...

To me self righteousness is holding yourself above others. It's harshly judging others according to your standards. No one is above another. We are all the same. I would say that pious people tend to be aware to a degree of their self righteousness. It's a self satisfied smugness. There! That's it. Smugness! Goes against the religion, doesn't it? Your definition is right on, in my opinion.
To be self righteous is to believe that you are superior to those that think differently or believe differently.
Isn't self righteousness inherent in any religion that claims to be the only right way? I think it is.

The term self righteous is often used by individuals when they wish to escape reality....In other words they brush aside a piece of good advice by using such terms. So long as you do not claim to be holier than thou art ,it is fine.

Out of curiosity where do you derive your righteousness from?
Jesus had plenty to say against the self righteous but He never said there was no such thing as righteousness.
If righteousness does not come from God then it comes from man and if that is the case then my righteousness is at least as good as yours and in both cases they are from ourselves..... Therefore if ANY righteousness that does not come from God is SELF righteousness.........
One other side note, Jesus said there is NONE righteous, no not one.

It has the word "right" in it. That means any argument against it would be by definition at least partially wrong.
