In Australia, there is a policy of multi-culturalism, where immigrants are free to do anything they like, as long as they obey the laws. So far this policy is working, and Australia is THE most accepting place for immigrants in the world. Outside of the riots in Sydney (which was caused more from gangs), it has been harmonious. Almost all nationalities are represented, and there has been no problem is in America.

So, is the European idea of asimulation better or worse than mult-culturalism in Australia?

I think to answer that question you can simply look at the multiple problems European countries are having with "multi-culturalism" with Muslim immigrants(mainly the Muslim youth).

Great idea! Glad to see it! It depends...what is the policy on free speech? Is it as free as it is in the U.S.? Are the sedition laws still in place (you had them, once, and may still)?

If so, you don't have to deal with a lot of the nonsense we do. People accuse our government of everything from illicit sex with their mother to selling us off to China with nary a squeak from the government by way of punishment.

It seems that every private citizen in the country can sue for libel and slander, but our representatives have their hands tied. It's wrong, and unjust. So constant claims of racism in a country that is one of the founders of the concept of equality are heard on a daily basis, like a rich kid whining that he's poor all the time.

Regardless, good to see you have things in hand. We do, too, but you wouldn't know it from the whining.

If I came to Australia, burned your flag, ranted that I was taking over, refused to speak any language but Klingon,
demanded gov't pay for my upkeep because I was illegal, would you be so tolerant?
I know many legal immigrants. They are free to do as they like here as well. They obey the laws, do not expect freebies. They work to earn citizenship, and relish our way of life. Some privately follow some traditions from their homeland, but most I know adapt quickly to ours.
It is not the legal immigrants who are wreaking havoc here, it's illegal aliens.
Your post is rather hypocritical considering the tough immigration laws of Australia. What are the statistics there on illegal aliens?

Australia doesnt have problems like the US because it is an island which makes it very easy to enforce the immigration laws.

How would you assimilate or divide into cultural groups, millions of people that dis-regard your laws and thumb their noses at the very core ideals that made your country great. It is time to deport these thieves and impeach our Elected Representatives that court their illegal votes. Convicted Felons and Politicians that ignore our Constitution should not have a voice in our republic.

But since the Aussies only allow a small fraction of immigration as compared to the US they wouldn't ever face the same types of issues that we have.

They don't have to print every government form in multiple languages at taxpayer expense.

They are not providing millions of people in their country illegally with free education and english language instruction.

They are not represented by politicians who seem bent on allowing an ever-increasing immigration flow and granting amnesty to millions of people who knowingly have broken our laws.

it is not against the regulation. united states of america is the hegemon. Soak it in. yet geopolitical positioning is dynamic, no longer static. Our place of preeminence will end... and quite frankly will in all probability end quickly (evaluate our age distribution, our extending existence spans, and the status of our entitlement courses). We spend approximately sixteen% of GDP on well being care on the instant and approximately 6% on protection (the hammer that helps our diplomatic flexibility)... well being care spending will bypass up, and that i think of protection will lose investment to conceal a number of this advance. evaluate that the Athenians by no potential discovered Latin, they clung to the memory of empire and greatness long after the worldwide had moved on. be chuffed to overlook with regard to the dynamism it fairly is the the shifting geopolitical worldwide. in simple terms don't be stunned to be suffering.

Tell you what. Why don't you keep your way, and we'll keep our way? And if everything is so hunky dory, why all the press about requiring people to assimilate under Howard?

And since when was the US more 'European' than Australia?

Well, the way you put it, multi culturalism is obviously better....But practically speaking, if it is just about holding on to ones culture, where would your nationalism and loyalty fall? After all, if a nation adopts you, you owe some sort of loyalty to it, no? In a perfect world, all these ideologies would work, just like communism and capitalism, but people are selfish by nature....

My parents came to the US in the 60's from Europe. They LEARNED the language. They OBEYED the laws. They didn't go around demanding that citizens of the US bend backwards and sideways for them. And guess what? They kept their beautiful culture to pass down to their children too.
