No, they cannot tell your parents. It falls under the HIPAA rules...doctor-patient confidentiality.

You may want to mention it to your dentist voluntarily, though. Smoking, even a pack, even one time, can have an effect on your gum tissue. I'm sure you'll be fine, but it is just so that your dentist is completely aware of your oral habits in order to ensure complete and accurate treatment.

The latest stas show that 73% of oral cancer patients are non-smokers. Ask your dentist if he/she offers ViziLite, an enhanced oral cancer screening. As I said, I'm sure you'll be fine; it's just to stay on top of your oral care/condition.

A dentist can smell the smoke on your breath for about three days after your last cigarette - no matter how hard you brush, the smell comes from your lungs.

The staining of teeth and pigmentation of gums are cumulative over years. It takes hundreds of packs for noticeable changes.

The laws about telling parents vary state to state.

HELLO,
THERE ARE VARIOUS STAGES OF STAINING. IT ALSO DEPENDS FOR HOW LONG YOU HAVE SMOKED. SOME STAINS MAY NOT BE EASILY SEEN ON THE UPPER TEETH, BUT THEY USUALLY CAN BE NOTICED ON THE INNER SURFACES OF THE LOWER TEETH.
