Even temples are decorated and have color.

It makes people more comfortable to to be able to put you in a "slot". That's just how society is. Tattoos and piercings: slackers, drug users, gangs. And it makes them very uncomfortable to think that there are many, many "normal" people, professionals, etc. who have them (just can't see them). There was an answer to a question the other day by someone who was totally blasting tattoos, that you would never see anyone at a fancy event in gowns, etc. with a tattoo - that those kinds of people would never have them and went on to say what losers we all were. All I could do was laugh - that person has obviously not been at some high end events.....I have and I've seen the tattoos.
As far as the religious aspect - people need to read the Bible and not pick and chose what is right and what is wrong. If that's the case then they shouldn't eat shell fish, pork, etc. And why would it be ok to say that ONE piercing in the ear is ok? (Because they have that.....).
Don't let them get to you and more importantly on here - it's really not worth responding to those kind of negative comments. They don't know you and what you are all about and you aren't going to change their minds. But for some reason they just love coming into this section and giving opinions.
Eventually we will out number them :)

I don't have any preference with piercings but I do like tattoos. Even an over the top amount (obviously there's a limit but I don't mind neck tattoos). Obviously, there are good and bad looking tattoos though :P

you know, this is the sad thing about stereotypes. We do it all the time and every person is guilty for it (sometimes they don't know when they had do it). People see tattoos and piercings and then think of what type of person you are.. It is not the tattoos or the piercings themselves that people find revolting.. but what kind the person they THINK the person is who has them. It is cruel.. and it happens to me for different reasons. Blonde, big chest.. say no more.. you can imagine what people think of me sometimes.. but it is not true. Ignore those people and if some of them are in the circle you hang out with then make them see you and not your body art.

I got my ears pierced in hs-many many years ago and it was an outrageous act. . .then. . .I still have my earrings and it was a good decision. . .So in my day people with tattoos were either in the Navy or in prison and a tattoo immediately got you not hired. So there is a stigma. Not being one for stigmas, I think tattoes are nasty. Not the little ones so much but the sleeves are too much. It doesn't look good. Have you seen all the jokes about the aging people with sagging tattoes. That will be a riot when you all get older and your tattoe is around your ankles or another inappropriate place. I just don't think it is attractive and it is not a turn on for me. Personal choice. . .
Here's a sad story. . .I had to have my ears repierced because first your earlobes stretch and seem to grow and the hole ended up in the wrong place-much like your tatoos will . .
However if I were younger and still wild and crazy I might have to stick something thru my eyebrow. . .but I can pull it out when I get tired of it. . .

Hear is a reason or two:
1. It has to do with the way that they were rasied. Like how their morals are and how they see things.
2. Religion- in Christianty, the Bible says that the body is a temple and should not be messed with. So, when some people see that, they think that is not right because you messed with the temple.
3. Some people just dont like them.

First, Who the heck cares how my tat is going to look if I am lucky enough to be 70 one day?! It is not like I'm gonna be running around in a bikini or anything like that! EVERYTHING, not just my tat is going to be wrinkly and saggy, my tat will just be one more saggy thing on my body!
That said, here is my answer...
Some people are afraid of what they don't understand. They have pre-conceived ideas and won't open their minds to anything or anyone different. It is easier to fall back on old stereotypes and judge someone (and give themselves a "holier than thou" ego boost) than it is to challenge themselves to new ideas and ways of expression of individuality!
Luckily, tats are becoming more mainstream and ergo, accepted!

Why do people hate eating fish? Its a mater of perception and taste. For a great many years tattooing was only done in sea ports for seamen ( in the sail days) who were considered lower class and ruffians and known for carrying STD's. This had become a cultural view that has taken a long time to change. Be grateful for just plain insults back in those days it was common to be kicked out of families, churches and social gatherings for such things.

some people find it that you are mistreating your body or sending and offensive message or a gang sign that is destroing their community. Personally I believe getting peircings other than your ear, or tatoos or anything to your body like that is a harmful to your body, and i believe we should treat our body as temples but some dont think the way I do but I respect them any way because it is not the way they look on the outside. If people are treating you that way, they probably dont understand you. I am sorry that people in this world treat, people like you, differant because of the way you look.

Societies "old fashioned" ways of thinking?
Really I don't know.
I've asked myself the same question...
But I'm tired of it, so now I have more of a "fcuk the world and it's opinions" mentality hah.
I love my piercings and tats and don't regret it at all, so whoever has a problem with them doesn't need to be in my life, because that is who I am... and I won't be changed for anyone.

Not really sure. Some people I guess feel that it's unnatural to have piercings and tattoos. Personally though, I don't have an issue with them. They let you express yourself.
