Well, if its all antural or approved by the FDA, it isn't going to hurt. However it may cost a lot. Be sure to check with a doctor first, but I would say go for it.

The only thing diet pills or fat burners do is burn up your hard earned money.
You should be losing about 2# per week, so 6 months to lose 50#
Oprah Winfrey recently said, if there was some 'miracle' drug or exercise to get rid of weight quick, don't you think I'd have it?
You're going about it the right way. If you hit a plateau, try having high days and low days on your diet. Example: 900 cal one day, 1500 the next. If you eat exactly the same calories every single day, sometimes you get stuck, and the weight won't come off. Mixing up your days will make your body start losing again.

Most diet pills make you feel like crap. They do have the new drug Alli. It does have some side effects, though, if you do not follow a low-fat diet while taking it. It basically blocks your body from digesting the fat....so I don't think I have to explain what happens with it. There is no magic pill. But Alli may help you lose a little bit quicker than normal and it's FDA approved. Anything else may make you jumpy, dehydrated, or depressed.

if you are gona be depriving your body all you will lose is gona be water weight and muscle not fat and also slow down your metabolism
to get permanent results you have to make permanent changes in your lifestyle (diet and exercise)
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
and take a multivitamin with breakfast and omega or flax oil capsules.

i say losin 50lbs should take about 6-8 months

No will not help. They can be harmful, unhelpful and make it worst for yourself than just eating healthy and exercising
