There are so many homeless shelters that require people to adhere to the Christian belief system before they will help them. Many of them will require the resident to attend bible study for a year or longer for 8 or more hours a day before they will allow them to look for work.

I can understand why they may have good intentions, they feel that person needs god in their life before they can be helped, but most of the people I know who have been through this end up feeling like they are being force fed or brainswashed and end up resenting the religion...

Do you think it is un-christ like...

I have often wanted to volunteer for the shelters that offer help to the homeless or battered or hungry people in my community. Unfortunately, they expect that you be a Christian or at least attend a Christian church, before they allow you to volunteer your time.

It seems very unusual that you are not welcome to help someone without adhering to a structured belief system. It seems even stranger that a person who will accept help, is forced to hear the Christian version of hopefulness.

It does seem rather unlike the Jesus Christ that was written about in the Bible. Almost hypocritical I suppose.

If you ask this question in a Christian country, like mine, the answer is yes. One of my clients is a nonprofit organization that help drug addicts, HIV patients and homeless. The program receive help from the government and other private entities. They are doing an excellent job helping the people that nobody care about. One of the requirements of the facilities is a Christian Chapel and weekly activities in the Church. I really don't know in which way they can manage a atheist, agnostic or a non Christian person. This is an interesting point to investigate.
The truth is that is Jesus exist he will be very happy to receive anyone regardless of the believes or non believes.

I personally don't believe that helping a person in need, should be based on whether they are
Christian or not. You would be showing the love of God more by helping them without expecting anything in return. Giving to them freely with out strings and with the love of God in your heart shows Gods love more. Some times actions speaks louder than words.

No, but they had to ask and then he would help them.

The food should be given freely without expecting anything in return. It is very un-christ like.

JESUS REQUIRED SOME FROM ONE PERSON AND NOTHING FROM ANOTHER PERSON. IT DEPENDED ON THE CIRCUMSTANCES AND PERSON.

THE RICH YOUNG RULER WAS TOLD TO GO AND SELL EVERYTHING HE HAD AND GIVE TO THE POOR. HE DID NOT DO IT AND WENT AWAY SORROWFULLY. SO HE DID NOT BECOME A FOLLOWER OF CHRIST.

THE WOMAN AT THE WELL THAT JESUS SAID IF YOU DRINK OF THE WATER THAT I GIVE YOU THEN YOU WILL NOT THIRST AGAIN. NOTHING WAS REQUIRED OF HER...

JESUS IS A PERSONAL SAVIOR AND WILL MEET YOU ON YOUR LEVEL. HE KNOWS JUST WHAT YOU NEED.

Not if they are genuine and believe. And Jesus said, "Because you have believed you are healed; you will be in paradise."
