Yes, but get TSA approved locks for your luggage so your bags can go through security without the locks getting cut on the American end (I'm assuming you are leaving the USA). I just arrived in Sydney and my bags were locked the entire trip. I had no trouble going through customs and I even claimed food/medicine when I walked through (they just scanned the bags one more time). I suggest you call a travel agent regarding the country to which you are traveling in the case there are any requirements of which you are not aware. Bon voyage!

You could get the TSA approved locks.

Last time I went to Europe, I used zip ties. I was searched....they cut them off and I was able to attach new ones quickly. They were secure in terms of keeping the bag closed. However, I still worried about thieves.

Call your travel agent or airport.....ask them for a definative answer - if there is such a thing in the travel/airline industry.

I wouldn't, especially if they have things like lotions, or anything like that. My mom's suitcase got checked once for suntan lotion. I would maybe zip it up but keep it to the edge so it won't happen to open accidently.
