Of course you are worried about your Nana. She will have to have a lumpectomy which is the removal of the lump and they will send it off to have it tested, and in about a week or two, she will find out if it is cancer or not. If it turns out to be cancer, lets hope it will be isolated to just the that lump, but if not, the world will not come to an end. she will more than likely undergo treatment either way, if it has spread she may have to have a mastectomy (removal or her breast and all tissue) This too is not the end of the world, it will prolong her life. Yes it will be very emotional for all involved. But the most important thing is to remember that beauty come from within.....and you must begin checking your self for lumps every month, and so will your mother.

I do hope all turns out well

A breast lump doesn't always mean cancer, she may have fibrocystic breast disease, which is not deadly. She may intake alot of caffeine, which causes lumps and bumps in the breast tissue. Reducing caffeine intake cures the problem. I've known a few women who did in fact have breast cancer, one had a lump, the other showed no signs, and was found through a blood test, the third was in late stage cancer, when diagnosed. You don't need statistics, you need to know what kind of lump it is, it could easily be a benign growth, and not cancerous at all. Breast cancer can be deadly, for sure, but of the three women I've known, only one passed away, the other two were treated, and have survived more than ten yrs each.

There is no percentage to determine and there is no way of telling without doctor checking it. Lumps mean very little as it could be a number of things. Try not to worry until you have to.

She needs to see a doctor immediately. And don't believe anything anyone tells you-such as if it hurts it isn't cancer. Mine hurt and it was invasive carcinoma. All RULES don't apply to cancer. It is what it is. For ANYTHING, go see the doctor immediately.

If it hurts then more than likely it is not cancer. If it does not hurt and feels like b.b. s then there is a need for concern
