Wouldn't it be environmentally better if we had a space station that held all the garbage in the world?? That way we'd have less problems with pollution and all of that. I was also thinking corpses too but I understand that people go to graves to greive over their dead and all. So...what you guys think?

No because it would need too many resources to be made and space is a vacuum so it would preserve the garbage. The idea of a space "dump" is far more detrimental than you know. It is better to reduce our waste and dispose of things in the most ecologically sound way.

Why not it's only money. Seriously though we already have such a garbage scow, sorry space station. It is called Earth. It just needs a little tidying up. It would be cheaper to move those of us who are multimillionaires off world and just send our junk back.

Let's ignore how impractical this is. If we had the ability to get garbage into space, why not send it to the sun and let it burn up?

A much better approach would be to do all we can to eliminate packaging. That's one of the biggest culprits in landfills.

No.

The resources required to build, launch, and maintain such a facility would be, no pun intended, astronomical. Not to mention, you would have to first transport all of the waste to centralized launch points in order to get it into space.

It is not a bad idea, but we need a cheap way of getting it up there. Nano technology might give us a way. What about putting garbage in big balloons and letting them float around way up there, or putting the garbage on big barges like giant plastic bags anchored on the ocean?
