my employer gives me hand written checks and doesnt show how much is taken out in taxes. ive heard its illegal but im not sure. is anyone positive that it is illegal.

i have a hunch that im being paid under the table and my taxes arent really taxes. and im not registered as an employee. ive worked at this place for 2 months and have no clock in number and everytime i ask for one. my manager makes excuses. can someone help me please.

They have to give you a W-2 at the end of the year with all this info so you can file your taxes. If they don't then they will be the ones getting in trouble and you can report them.

If he is paying you under the table, he is taking a chance leaving a paper trail by paying you with a check. You can call the Social Security Office, and the IRS to see if your employer has set up an account for you. The 1st answer is correct about him having to give you a W-2 with all the information on it. I receive a personal check every week without everything being broken down for me. But I told them I wanted something that showed exactly how much was being taken out every week so I could give the info to my accountant so she could make sure enough was being taken out every week.

Yes, sounds like what your employer is doing is illegal. And if he's withholding taxes and not turning them in, then he can REALLY be in trouble!

First, look for another job asap. Then call the IRS and let them know what's going on.

Your employer is requiered to give you a check stub and/or a computer printout for each pay period showing your gross, net and YTD earnings and all dedutions, taxes, insurance etc
