This is completely serious so only informative answers please. My fiancee's grandmother's health is declining and lately she has experienced hallucinations. Most of the time she sees spiders, and when she steps on them blue sparks fly out of them which are their babies. She's constantly making a stepping motion as if to squash them and is constantly rubbing furniture as if to brush them away. I know it sounds like something out of a Sci Fi movie, but I've researched it online with no success and her doctor's do not have an answer to this mysterious ailment. Has anyone ever heard of this?
Again, it is strange, but serious answers or comments please.

She needs a different doctor. This sounds like dementia. Patients suffering from dementia have all sorts of hallucinations. Have her examined by a neurologist. Brain scans will show abnormal changes and swelling in the brain that can cause these types of hallucinations. Medication is helpful so please don't wait.

Don't worry, this is very normal of an arachnophobic. The only way you can take care of it is by facing your fear. You have to remember that they are SO much smaller than you, and are virtually incapable of harming you (at least the little common house spiders that you are probably encountering). If you lose a spider before you can get rid of it, there's not much you can do -- you shouldn't let a tiny insect stop you from entering a part of your own house.

Honestly, you should probably see a psychiatrist and not a general practitioner about this ailment. It could be a phobia combined with being senile. Likely cause is a chemical imbalance that can be calmed down with some sort of medication. See a psychiatrist!

Hmmm.....best left your question away from me.
Your family might be experiencing the eye into the next. She sees into the next world where she is going, but is still here. My grandfather does that, also, only he is lucky to be alive right now. He fell and broke his hip, the paramedics came and rescesitated him, only he is in hospice and has a "do not rescesitate tag" supposedly. He died en route to the hospital, but was brought back.
I wish I could ask him what he saw then, but he wont talk about it, he just plays his harmonica like nothing ever happened.......he is so stubborn....

When I was a hippie, a friend introduced me to a cheap halucinogen that you could buy in the local drug store. It's a motion sickness pill called Marezine. When you swallowed all ten pills in the package, you'd halucinate like crazy. Mostly spiders and spider webs. We'd spend hours trying to wipe spider webs off our fingers.
Maybe granny is on prescription drugs that combine to give her the halucinations.

It could be mental illness or she could have problems with too much medication. Is she a secret drinker? Heavy tipplers sometimes have visual hallucinations. Anyway, the problem is somewhere in her brain, and hopefully it is something that can be fixed either with a medication or by stopping a medication.

She could have bipolar disorder.
Once I think I saw a really big spider, but I don't think it was really there. You should Google "spider hallucinations", I think many people do have hallucinations about spiders although yours seems quite a bit unique. I suggest if it continues that you should have her see a psychologist.

This is a serious matter. For a serious matter a serious answer. Here it is. Ask a doctor NOT a computer. Which one went through 8 years of H**L to treat you? Which one went through 3 hours of building to get to you?

Have the pharmacist check her medications. There could be a problem with the combinations of drugs. Make sure you bring all of them in for him/her to check including any supplements she is taking.
Good luck!
