I like to get things off my chest, but really my hope is to convert the world to atheism.

If that could happen overnight we'd all wake up the next day in a peaceful, sane world with people behaving morally for the all right reasons. The light of honesty would illuminate our collective actions for the first time in history.

Since most people hate to talk about religion I think chat rooms/answer sessions are a decent way to try to make the world a better place.

Honestly I have this huge curiosity with religion. There is this deep psychological tie to it that I find fascinating in a frightening way.
But yes I do my share of ridicule I will admit that.
I also ask a fair share of serious questions revolving the history of the bible..usually ones that I get no real answers to.
I do find interesting info on here. Like I didn't hear about the Creation Museum until I was on here.
I think for the most part this place in a strange way gives me a sense of hope...yes I said hope.
Religion horrifies me (Not God or Jesus..but religion). I fear what it is doing to my country and humanity in general. Its nice to see people on here who recognize that fear and through an odd way comfort me in knowing that not everyone is so crazy into religion and have interest from a humanistic standpoint.

To promote understanding and tolerance, and to provide illumination where I can.

I think that if more of us spent time listening and learning about each other, over time we could reduce the intolerance in the world. Intolerance leads to all kinds of suffering, and my Buddhist practice is all about trying to bring an end to suffering. I've also learned that many people here have sincere questions about Buddhism; without trying to convert anybody, I do try to answer questions so that people can develop informed opinions.

The big side benefit has been connecting with so many beautiful people, from so many parts of the world, who share a fundamental goodness, compassion and love that does not seem to have anything whatsoever to do with their spiritual traditions or even lack thereof! (Including you, KG! Thanks for asking the question!)

Reconnaissance: learning how the young earth/religious right truly think is invaluable. Where I come from, people don't believe the Ark story is literally true and that there were dinosaurs on board. A couple years ago, if someone said that to me in person, I'd be speechless.

I also hope I can provoke someone to examine deeply beliefs that they have never questioned. I don't expect to change anyone's mind about God, but there are a lot of people who don't ask the right questions. There is a lot of misinformation floating around out there, and I'm not referring solely to religion.

Thirdly, it sometimes get my creative juices flowing.

I'm started on Y!A initially to wean myself off of games like World of Warcraft and EverQuest 2. :p

I started out on the homeschool boards. Thought it would be nice to chat with other homeschoolers... and found myself on a pointless and never-ending mission to squash silly misconceptions about socialization. It got boring. So I came over to R&S.

I am here to laugh, exchange ideas, and to confront ignorant misconceptions about atheists. It's just as pointless as in the other board, but far more entertaining.

i love to find the ones who seem to be sincerely searching for God. The Internet is as good of an evangelical tool as any. I believe everyone needs to know Christ and will take any chance I can get to share the plan of salvation. Sometimes during the search I find and answer some silly or frivolous questions along the way. It's all in good fun. God bless!!

In all honesty, I'm mostly here for entertainment. I think it's interesting to see what others think. There are a few fairly intelligent and articulate people here, and a whole lot of ignorant fools. They aren't really divided up by religion, either.

To educate and be educated.
To entertain and be entertained.
To satisfy and share an Insatiable thirst for knowledge.
To refine and focus my own thoughts and arguments in an arena that's not a closed loop system such as my own head.
