Has God indeed said...Those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no firm root; they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away."? (Luke 8:13)
the scripture clearly teaches BOTH the sovereignty of God AND the free will of men. To deny this is irrational, and must be caused by something other than reason based on scriptural precepts.
The scriptural position is that a person who is saved can forfeit that salvation. The bible teaches those at highest risk of forfeiting their salvation are those who are newly saved, and those who continue on in known disobedience, after being born again.
The elect are those whom God chose, whom God foresaw would both trust in His Son AND who would endure or persevere in the faith given them until the end of their physical life, or the return of Jesus.
Those whose hearts are seeking the Lord with all that is in them, should have no concern about "losing" their salvation. Nor should they have any concern about forfeiting their salvation.
Salvation cannot be lost, but it can be forfeited - this is the nature of covenants in the bible. The bible no where guarantee's someone that salvation once received cannot be turned away from or forfeited by the individual that possesses it.
Receiving salvation involves man's will, and not works. Forfeiting salvation involves man's will, and not works. In the same way the Lord did not force His salvation on anyone, He neither forces anyone to remain in the covenant.

I don't know I think so, how can you tell? And I've never heard that, but I think it's incorrect because well really Jesus saved us all, I suppose. But other than that I think it might be worse to be a true follower and then just stop. Oh and I hate those people that think they can do whatever they want to whoever they want because they are 'saved'. What a load of crap! I hope that's not true because thoses people are pure evil!

You are saved because Jesus gave his life for the sins of the world so that the door to heaven would be open. Prior to that there was not a Resurrection. Sacrifices were made but that still did not open the door. When Jesus died, he took all those who died before him to heaven with him. Those who come after will be received as they die. Since there really is no time, it will take place at that moment you pass over. Salvation comes not by our works but by the grace of God. We can still reject salvation. We can still deny God and Christ. We can turn our back on our own salvation. That is our God given free will choice. So although we are saved by the blood of the Pure Lamb, Jesus the Christ the last sacrifice, we can reject that salvation. We are always saved as long as we receive it, but still have to look at our life time when our book of records is open. Salvation, means the door is always open.
You can't take back the sacrifice. It took place. It is finished, as Jesus said on the cross. But you still have to accept it.
Your sins will be washed clean, white as snow, because no sin can get into heaven. You will also have to be able to forgive yourself. That is the hard part sometimes.

There is so much to say about that subject that you could never be satisfied with an answer given in this limited forum. If you want to understand the argument thoroughly purchase and read the book "Life in the Son" by Robert Shank.
It is the most comprehensive and scholarly work done on this subject in existence.

I believe that once you are saved, you are always saved. There is nothing you can do to lose your salvation. If you really love Jesus, you will not be trying to do all kinds of wild things just so you can get forgiven later on. You will be really pursuing God and He will lead you in the right way.

I do not believe in "once saved always saved" simply because in the bible there are many mentions of it. We could have our name removed from the Book of Life. We can lose our "price", and it is also written that those who have known God and walked with him, if they turn back (I mean realy hard) can not find their way back to Him. It is clear in many places that what we get we can also lose...

Well... if you "convert" to Atheism, and you no longer believe in a being that could "save" you, nor in having to be "saved," I suppose that would be a way out and prove that doctrine incorrect.

It is not "incorrect" I am saved, I got saved when I was 8 and I am still saved now, 15 years later.
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
30 I and my Father are one.
There are others but I don't have time to find them.

false doctrine. No one is guaranteed salvation! We must work everday, through God's grace in Christ!
"So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling" Phillipians 2:12
"But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved" Matthew 24:13

Hebrews 6: 4,5,6
That is the Unpardonable Sin
This is the one that will mess-up your spirit again, And you will become LOST again BIG TIME (no more chance for Redemption).
This "sin" (and it is not Suicide, Murder, Being Gay, Drunkeness and Drugs, Fornication etc.)
is HARD to COMMIT, it takes TIME to COMMIT it and VERY FEW CHRISTIANS commit it--and you have to become a Christian (not just a Child of GOD) to Commit it.
Child of GOD: anybody who Accepts Jesus as their Saviour and gets their spirit RECREATED (Born-Again, Saved).
Christian: any Child of GOD who Learns how to "Walk in Holiness".
Ditto.........general Rule of Thumb---IF your Scared that you have Comitted the Unpardonable Sin, YOU HAVE NOT.
Anybody who commits this sin does not care about Jesus, Heaven, The Bible etc., ANYMORE. In fact, they'll probably get really MAD if you try to talk to them about Jesus.
