Definitely. I am a case in point.
I dug into the Occult and the Black Arts and became deeply demon possessed myself. People who looked into my eyes would say that they saw a malevolent intelligence looking back at them, something they sensed was not human, which frightened them badly. They were also frightened by the weird demonic powers I wielded.
It got so bad, that people behind closed doors knew I was approaching because they would feel an aura of evil come through the door, and several seconds later I would walk in.
After I became a Christian I fought demons who had taken on visible form and I wasn't the only one that saw them. In fact, several non-believers became Christians based on what they had seen when I was attacked.
The cleverest thing Satan has done is to convince the world that he doesn't exist. And as someone stated above, there are many people in insane asylums who aren't mentally ill, they are demon possessed. But as "modern science" scoffs at such ideas, these people rarely receive the help they so desperately need. Instead they're medicated into a stupor as a way of controlling them.
So yes, demon possession can and does occur, but most people today don't know what to look for, or how to fight them.
If anyone has any questions or wishes to talk about this issue, please feel to write me.

Having spent time in Pentecostal churches and had first-hand encounters with individuals who were diagnosed as being demon possessed, as well as studying what the Bible has to say on the topic, my own view is that this is an ancient way of referring to conditions that today we would refer to in psychological terms. To give one relatively recent example, I don't think Andrea Yates was under attack by demons. I think she was suffering from post-partum depression (and perhaps other things), and that had she been given psychological help rather than a diagnosis in archaic, mythical, pre-scientific terms, a tragedy could have been avoided.
This is not to say that that which people experience as 'the demonic' is not 'real'. The fact that something is psychological does not make it less real, less important, or less terrifying.

Of course, we were at a prayer meeting one night and this man brought in his wife and told us that they had watched the movie "butterfly effect " or something like that and after the movie his wife tried to kill him .
When we started praying in the Spirit , the demon in her started to talk and curse and we put the bible on her and cast the demon out.
I had seen this on TV before and I prayed to the Lord one day , that He would let me see it in person and when it actually happened , I had long forgot about that prayer.
Most people don't believe in demons and therefore don't pay attention to what they allow into their spirit.
Satan is very real and he is powerful and the only way to fight him is with the Word of God.

It is what primative, superstitious people used to call mental illness, and what some people still call it. In many cases it can and has been cured with drugs and/or psychological treatment, and more types of it are curable every year as science progresses. No prayer or crosses necessary. No demons. No Satan. Just poor, misunderstood people afflicted with a brain disorder. It is a sad commentary on society that so many different groups, including Christians, have persecuted them and used them for their own self-serving purposes.

The idea of spirit possession is present in many cultures. For example, practitioners of voudoun (spelling varies) are "ridden" by loa, or spirits, in their rituals. In some pentecostal/ charismatic churches, the Holy Spirit is said to manifest through worshipers, either via speaking in tongues or laying on of hands. Demon possession is another aspect of this idea that is common to Western minds (especially since the release of The Exorcist). As to whether or not it "exists": it certainly exists in the minds of the followers.

I think it's obvious (personally, i think it's cool) that in t/ Bible, new testament there are many references to demon possession. It was actually happening back in Jesus' time & His disiples too! You don't see it that much today though! I believe it is still happening but we have doctors & special hospitals to help those possessed! lol, it's sad.

The only way that you can be possessed, is if you open yourself up to that. Actually you can't be possessd, I don't know if you are if you were raised in a christian home or not. The bible says that whomever you yield yourself to,that's who servant you are. Whether it be God or satan. The word of God also states, that you are to choose you this day whom you will serve. We all must make wise decisions in or life. My advise is that you don't open yourself up to demonic spirits, and that you would allow God to be the Lord of your life. Hope this little tidbit is helpful to you.

The church estimates that only 5% of those believed to be possessed are actually possessed by the evil one. The rest are actual schizophrenics or multiple personality disorders. They can tell because their exorcists are either trained in basic psychiatry or first refer the subject to a psychiatrist before they investigate or perform the ritual of deliverance.
The investigation usually shows evidence of preternatural ability like the knowledge of human languages unknown to the subject or of matters that could not be known, or supernatural strength (like the Gerasene demonaic and in the case of Mohammad who made camels foam and buckle under his weight during his "revelations")
God has made human beings more robust so that they cannot be invaded spiritually unless they allow it by free choice when they are at their weakest, for example, under the influence of drug or alcohol or other addiction in which they are especially open to attacks from the evil one and the ones who followed him into eternal rebellion. We are made in the image of God and we are made to resist the evil one. Of course the same cannot be said of those who channel spirits in order to divine the future, etc, they are open to attacks and demonic possession from these cunning spirits that are older than any mortal man.

Well, I thought my ex-husband was demon possessed, but the doctors all said he was mentally ill. I'm pretty sure there must be a difference. . . . .right?
