They can be extremely dangerous. I have known dogs to go into sezuires and some that have died using the OTC medicines.

I would buy the frontline.. not the frontline plus. It is much cheaper. If it is only a flea problem you can also try advantage as that is also cheaper. Go to your vet and just by a month supply. The most 1 month should cost you is 13 bucks. It will give you at most 3 months relief (depending on your problem) and at least 40 days.

I worked at a vet clinic and saw the worst of those "over the counter" flea drops.

I've seen poisonings, chemical burns, and hair loss result from them.
So, you try to save a little, and end up spending more repairing the damage.

Just pop for the good stuff.

typically I wouldn't recommend using the over the counter flea prevention. It can be too harsh for an animal bc it's not the right chemical dosage. The pet can get really bad chemical burns from them and to be honest they really don't work. You're best bet would be just to purchase frontline or advantage when you can. And don't waste you're money on the hartz or biospot crap or even the flea collars. Those don't work.

Do NOT use OTC flea products including shampoos and collars. These are ineffective and they can be very dangerous. They can cause skin irritations, skin burns, neurological issues, seizures and death.
The only safe product is the one you buy from a vet.

i hate flea collars and that "hartz" stuff you get over the counter. it works however it poisins your dogs skin so when the fleas, ticks or mosquitos bite they die. it doesn't prevent them like the brands you get at the vets office do. they can also rub your dogs neck raw and then the vet has to clean out the wounds which easilly get infected and it is cheaper to buy the good stuff. I recommend advantix because it repels fleas, tick and mosquitos, which mosquitos spread heartworms so make sure your dog is on a heartworm preventative. it costs around $500 to treat heartworms. i understand its expensive but its cheaper to prevent it than to treat it.

If your low on cash, go ahead and try them. Im sure that since you have already prepped your yard and dogs, they will work fine.
