I'm 14 and 5' 8. I weigh about 140. My BMI is in the normal zone but is in the risk of being overweight. I am always being made fun of because of my weight from my family. Its summer and I can have all the time I use to try and lose some weight this summer. I was hoping to lose about 20 - 30 pounds the next couple of months

I also had surgery on my knee about 7 months ago. I just got back into PE wen the school year was coming to an end.

dont look at scale or BMI - what matters really is your body fat percentage.
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
and take a multivitamin with breakfast.

If you can swim, I recommend you do that alot this summer. Walk to places in short distances you would normally get a ride in a car to, and eat less. I read in seventeen magazine that your portions for foods should be:
meat- relative to the size of your palm
fruit/vegetable- relative to the size of your fist
bread, rice, pasta, etc- realtive to the size of your fist
also drink alot of water and don't eat late at night!

Eat healthier and less. Try to eat salads quite often. But make sure you get plenty of protein and run everyday. Try to cut down on pop and candy if you eat/drink those a lot.

At 5'8..which is almost tall for a woman..I would like to think your almost at a perfect weight for that height and I definitely dont' think you need to lose thirty pounds...if you must...try five to ten and see how you feel about it...
